Spinning for the MSPCA barn animals!
This year will be my first year spinning in the MSPCA at Nevins Farm’s annual Spin for Animals to raise money for this magnificent organization. If you’ve never heard of them before, the MSPCA was originally founded by George Thorndike Angell in 1868 when he read about 2 horses that were raced to death while towing 2 riders 40+ miles on rough terrain. Since then, the MSPCA has had a focus on caring for animals in need with a goal of preventing animal cruelty.
While the MSPCA cares for all types of animals, one horse at Nevins that really caught my eye -Emmitt. He has been at the MSPCA for quite some time now and was surrendered with an abscess on his leg. With the help of the MSPCA, they were able to call in an emergency veterinarian to help drain the abscess and get him the proper medication he needed to avoid an infection and relieve him of his pain. Unfortunately, farm animals do not typically get adopted as quickly as most cats, dogs, ferrets, etc do at the small animal shelter, in some cases they could even be at the shelter for years before they find their forever home.
The MSPCA was able to care for Emmitt (and his other barn friends) through the kind and thoughtful donations given by people like you. You see, the MSPCA does not receive any federal funding, we receiving nothing from the state; our only source of funds for the animals comes in through donations.
Consider this - the average cup of coffee could pay for medication or vaccines for an incoming animal. The average cost of take out for lunch could buy a bale of hay for a hungry horse and the average cost of a dinner out could supply enrichment for under socialized goats or pigs.
Would you consider donating the cost of one take out meal to help save an animal in need?
I greatly appreciate everyone who takes the time to read this and thank you in advance for any donations!!
