25K for my 25 years!
On May 7th 1994, I started as an animal care giver and I couldn't have been more ecstatic. 6 months earlier to this date I had never even heard of an animal shelter. I had always loved animals and like most people that love animals, I wanted to become a veterinarian. My mother thought it would be a good idea for me to pad my college resume with animal experience, so one day after school she drove me to Methuen and signed me up as a dog walker. I never imagined at that point that I would do more than show up once a week after school and walk a few dogs. However, in just a few short weeks I started showing up more often after school, then on weekends, and then on vacations/summer.
Now it is 25 years later and I'm still at the MSPCA. People often ask me how I don't burn out after seeing so much cruelty, neglect, etc. My answer is always the same: "Yes there is a lot of that that I see, but I see a heck of a lot more love and compassion than cruelty." I honestly love this job because I am reminded so many times about how much good is in this world, and I'm honored to have a really great job that allows me to foster that compassion. I wake up excited each day to think of how we can do more and better for animals and the people that love them. I feel inspired by the work the MSPCA does, and I'm excited to work for an organization that allows me to be creative and feel more like I am just getting started on a long journey to help our community.
This year's Fast and Furriest 5K comes right at my quarter century mark and I'm hoping to celebrate my anniversary by raising a bunch of money for the organization that I love. Thank you for your support!
