When I set the goal of qualifying for the 2014 Boston Marathon, I wanted it to be about more than my own accomplishment. I wanted to give back to the organization that has brought incredible joy to my life and the lives of thousands of others. For that reason, I am running Boston in support of the MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen, MA.

The MSPCA works tirelessly to prevent cruelty, educate the public, and unite homeless animals with deserving families. I have been on the receiving end of their amazing work multiple times, as I am a 5-time adopter (Barley, Todd, Kermit, Fozzie, and Simba). My dog Todd is my best friend, and I have the MSPCA to thank for bringing him into my life. When I got home from Boston on the day of last year's tragedy, the first thing I did was hug him. On May 26th, a cold and rainy day in Burlington, VT, I qualified for Boston 2014. The first thing I did upon reuniting with my family was grab Todd's leash. Sensing that my walking ability was impaired, he stayed right with me (and man was he drenched!!).

Our animals are a huge source of emotional support in our lives. They are with us through high points and low moments, always ready to greet us with a nuzzle, a kiss, or a happy squeak. I want to support the MSPCA so that they can continue to carry out their amazing work.

As a qualified runner, I am not required to raise any money for charity. However, no organization is closer to my heart than the MSPCA at Nevins farm, and I hope you can help me support them.
