Let's Finish What We Started!

It’s hard to put into words why I run for the MSPCA. Animals simply can’t speak for themselves, and they depend on people like you: people who care, advocate, and provide awareness for animals that cannot speak. You help fund life-saving operations for all kinds of animals; adoption centers that help animals find their forever home; low cost spaying and neutering; and much, much more.

The MSPCA is completely dependent on people like you, just like our pets. When I come home every day to a wagging tail and a welcoming “meow!”, I’m reminded how lucky I am to have such great pets in my life. The MSPCA, though, helps those animals that don’t yet have a chance to make such a great impact in our lives.

Needless to say, last year’s tragedy impacted our city. My race prematurely ended after I ran twenty-five and a half miles. I never crossed that finish line. I owe it to you, the MSPCA, and the animals to cross it this year. When I came home that day, it was my animals that comforted me and gave me the peace I needed to move past that tragedy.

I’m so happy to say that, this April, I’m again running for the MSPCA in the Boston Marathon.Last year we raised over $5,000 for the animals and this year’s Boston Marathon is again for them and the organization we support. We want to show the world we're #BostonStrong and are aiming for a even higher goal. Your support means everything.

Please support me and this wonderful organization!

Every day I come home to three incredible beings- Isabella, Scooby and Riley. My animals make every day better. And pets everywhere do the same for their owners.

Not all animals are as lucky. There are millions of animals without homes, facing cruelty, or worst. I believe in an organization that works every day to improve the lives of animals.

That's why I'm running for the MSPCA-Angell. The MSPCA-Angell is a national and international leader in animal protection and veterinary medicine and provides direct hands-on care for thousands of animals each year. Founded in 1868, they are the second-oldest humane society in the United States. Their services include animal protection and adoption, advocacy, humane education, law enforcement, and world-class veterinary care.

The MSPCA-Angell is a private, nonprofit organization. They do NOT receive any government funding nor are we funded or operated by any national humane organization. The MSPCA-Angell relies solely on the support and contributions of individuals who care about animals.

Who is Vanessa?

I'm a 28 year old runner. This will be my third marathon. I've ran 11 half marathons and I'm excited to be returning to the Boston Marathon! My first and second marathons also supported the MSPCA.

Last year, I was turning onto Beacon Street when the bombs when off. My race ended officially at 25.5 miles.

I'm ready finish strong this race and help to raise funds for an organization that means so much to me.

The MSPCA has been a family to me. In fact, one of my "fur babies" is from the MSPCA. The MSPCA helps thousands of homeless animals find good homes and helps animals receive the medical care they need. I believe in this organization.

Who are the animals?

I have a dog and two cats.

Isabella: Isabella was a Honduran rescue. When I arrived in my small rural town, I knew I wanted a kitten. I wanted a pet I could grow with. My host mom surprised after 3 weeks with a cat in a bag! That was Isabella. She was scared, malnourished, and I fell in love with her immediately. She's been with me every since. Isabella is 6 years old.

Scooby: I've had Scooby since he was an itty bitty baby. Scooby was a gift was my Peace Corps town. He was named by the kids in my town and has been all over the U.S. Scooby is 5 years old.

Riley: Riley is the oldest and newest member of the family. My boyfriend and I adopted Riley from the MSPCA last summer. He's perfect. He gets along get with the other animals and we're so happy that the MSPCA could bring us to him. Riley is 7-8 years old.

Thanks so much Vanessa! Thanks for running for the animals who need us so much. You are an angel. I am an animal lover also, and have two kitties. You inspire me to volunteer for the animals, and maybe run for them some day too. Good luck!
