Let's Finish What We Started!
Last year we raised $5,000 for the MSPCA and I wasn't able to finish the race. So this year, we're going to do it again and add $2,620 (for 26.2 miles) to the goal.
We are #BostonStrong and we need to be strong for the animals in Massachusetts. After the attacks, I found the most comfort in my pets. My dog and cats cuddled with me when I was devastated by the events. They were there for me, so I'm running to make sure I'm there for them.
Please support me and this wonderful organization!
Every day I come home to three incredible beings- Isabella, Scooby and Riley. My animals make ever day better. And pets everywhere do the same for their owners.
Not all animals are as lucky. There are millions of animals without homes, facing cruelty, or worst. I believe in an organization that works every day to improve the lives of animals.
That's why I'm running for the MSPCA-Angell. The MSPCA-Angell is a national and international leader in animal protection and veterinary medicine and provides direct hands-on care for thousands of animals each year. Founded in 1868, they are the second-oldest humane society in the United States. Their services include animal protection and adoption, advocacy, humane education, law enforcement, and world-class veterinary care.
The MSPCA-Angell is a private, nonprofit organization. They do NOT receive any government funding nor are we funded or operated by any national humane organization. The MSPCA-Angell relies solely on the support and contributions of individuals who care about animals.
I'm not made of money, but I have energy. So I'm putting that energy into running my 3rd marathon: the Boston Marathon.
Known as one of the world's toughest marathon, I'm going to show my support for the MSPCA in our hometown.
Please consider donating today!
Who is Vanessa?
I'm a 28 year old runner. This will be my third marathon. I've ran 9 half marathons and I'm excited to be returning to the Boston Marathon! My first and second marathons also supported the MSPCA.
Last year we raised over $5,000 and I was running a 4:45 marathon before the race ended. I was turning onto Beacon Street when the bombs when off.
I'm ready finish strong this race and help to raise funds for an organization that means so much to me.
The MSPCA has been a family to me. In fact, one of my "fur babies" is from the MSPCA. The MSPCA helps thousands of homeless animals find good homes and helps animals receive the medical care they need. I believe in this organization.
Who are the animals?
I have a dog and two cats.
Isabella: Isabella was a Honduran rescue. When I arrived in my small rural town, I knew I wanted a kitten. I wanted a pet I could grow with. My host mom surprised after 3 weeks with a cat in a bag! That was Isabella. She was scared, malnourished, and I fell in love with her immediately. She's been with me every since. Isabella is 6 years old.
Scooby: I've had Scooby since he was an itty bitty baby. Scooby was a gift was my Peace Corps town. He was named by the kids in my town and has been all over the U.S. Scooby is 5 years old.
Riley: Riley is the oldest and newest member of the family. My boyfriend and I adopted Riley from the MSPCA last summer. He's perfect. He gets along get with the other animals and we're so happy that the MSPCA could bring us to him. Riley is 7-8 years old.
