Meet 6 year old Benji! Benji is the full package- he`s big, strong, silly and smart! He is looking for a patient adopter who is excited about training using positive reinforcement to help him learn his best leash walking skills. Although Benji is able to navigate a world close to other dogs, he would likely thrive in a lower trafficked environment outside. Benji has the potential to have some calm, tolerant canine roommates or walking friends. Benji may be able to live with kids who are comfortable with a big strong dog! Benji does not have a history with cats, so any interested adopters should be committed to taking an introduction with a resident cat extremely slowly!
If Benji sounds like the dog for you, please visit our Methuen Adoption Center Tuesday-Sunday 12PM-4:30PM.
Chihuahua - Smooth Coated / Jack (Parson) Russell Terrier
Cape Cod
Male
3 Years
We’re Rico and Tito, a dynamic duo of chihuahua mix brothers on the hunt for our new home! Life’s been a bit sheltered for us so far, but that just means we’re experts in the art of cuddling and cuteness.
We’ll admit, we’re a tad shy at first, but give us some time and patience, and we’ll shower you with more love and affection than you can handle.
We’re looking for a calm home with no young kids running around – we prefer our quiet time for naps and cozy cuddles. And while we’d love to stick together like peanut butter and jelly, we understand if you can only handle one dollop of chihuahua love at a time.
So, if you’re ready to add a sprinkle of spice and everything nice to your life, swing by and speak to adoption staff about us, Rico and Tito! We promise to fill your days with endless tail wags and adorable antics.
Meet Shadow! This shy boy is looking for a patient adopter who is able to efficiently read cat body language. He may need some extra time and patience to adjust to his new surroundings. Slow introductions and a predictable routine will help him feel safe and secure. He may benefit from a quiet room to retreat to when he feels overwhelmed.
Roxy is Pint sized perfection. If you like relaxing walks and taking time
to smell the roses then returning home to take a snooze on the couch, you
might be a good match for Roxy! She could do well with a dog companion who
has the same likes, pace, and energy that she does. She could be matched
with a dog savvy cat. Roxy needs an adopter who can get to know her and
understand her challenges with close handling – she could do well with kids
who can learn her cues and respect her boundaries. Adopter should also be
willing and able to work with her vet on this to ensure Roxys needs are
met. She should have a gradual introduction to new things as she has had a
lot of change recently. Roxy has the sweetest little expression and would
love to be introduced to you!

Want to meet Roxy? Visit the MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen Tuesday-Sunday

Doves can be tamed but tend to be more “hands off” birds. They tend to vocalize throughout the day with a “coo”, dissimilar to the screeching or whistling of many other birds. Doves can be found around the world, and can live up to 10 years with proper nutrition and care. We recommend that doves live in pairs or groups whenever possible.
We recommend a cage that is at least 32”x23” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ?-¾” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of flat surfaces to perch on, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Unlike many other species of birds, doves are unable to climb up cage bars, and tend to move back and forth making a wider cage more appealing to them. Doves should be provided with regular opportunities for bathing, and unlike parrots require grit as part of their regular diet to aid in digestion.
The needs of each dove are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the dove you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.
* If you think you are a good fit and would like to learn more, please click on the blue Inquire link above and fill out the form, or submit an inquiry at mspca.org/nevinsadopt. If you just want to browse in person feel free to stop by during our open hours.
* We receive a large number of inquiries daily and we do our best to respond to each inquiry as soon as possible! For more information on our adoption process, please visit www.mspca.org/nevinsadoptionprocess .
* If you are not ready to adopt, but are in a position to donate, please visit www.mspca.org/nevinsgift .

Meet Grasshopper, a giant, goofy, and affectionate 7-month-old puppy who is eager to find his forever home. This playful pup loves to romp around with other dogs and has a heart full of love to give. While he’s still working on his manners, Grasshopper’s enthusiasm for life and his affectionate nature make him a delightful companion for the right family.
Grasshopper is looking for a patient adopter who enjoys training with positive reinforcement and has a good sense of humor. During his transition, keeping his world small within the home is important, using confinement spaces like a crate with an ex-pen around it. Ensure his confinement space is a positive, safe zone where only happy things happen.
If you’re excited about training and ready to offer a loving, patient home, Grasshopper is eager to become your new best friend and bring joy and laughter into your life.
Ernie is an adorable 4 year old Nigerian Dwarf wether. He is very shy, so would do best in a home with an experienced adopter who can handle him and help him warm up to people over time. He deserves a loving home where he can relax and learn that humans are his friends!
Goats are herd animals and need the company of other goats to be healthy and happy. We are looking for adopters who can take at least a pair of goats or have an existing herd at home that they’d like to expand. Interested adopters should have housing for their goats to include proper shelter from the elements and fencing to contain these notorious escape artists. As they say – if it can’t hold water, it can’t hold a goat!
All goats are up to date on their medical needs, but will need routine maintenance moving forward for things like hoof trims and yearly vaccines.
Interested in adding a hilarious and sweet group of goats to your home? Fill out an adoption form by clicking the “Inquire” button and a staff member will reach out to discuss!

More about Buddy:
I am pretty shy, shutdown, sensitive guy looking for a quiet, low-traffic home without much transition or expectations for me to be outgoing and snuggly to start. My history shows I loved the people within my social bubble ad enjoyed being carried like a baby: but I am not showing this part of my personality here at the shelter and my adopter needs to understand that it will take time for me to show this side of me in the future.
I am easily stressed ad overwhelmed during transitions, and I am looking for an adopter who is willing to give me as much time as I need to settle in. This could be a few days, or a couple of weeks. My success will be dependent upon how well my adopter is able to read and understand my body language.
It is recommended that I be given my own space (an extra bedroom or bathroom) that is not used by people or other pets except for feeding me and cleaning. I should initially be left alone while I adjust to my new surroundings. My space should offer plenty of hiding places, ideally with access to vertical surfaces as well as a cat tree or cat-proofed shelf, and easy access to a litter box, food and water. Only when I am confidently moving about my environment and remain confident with relaxed body language when my adopter is with me should I be given more access to the home. I may be conflicted about close handling/petting, especially as I settle in. I should be thought of as a `pet myself on you` kind of cat until I become comfortable with my adopter, and I should always be allowed to initiate interactions, using consent tests.
I have a history of being an indoor/outdoor guy, the majority of time inside, but I enjoyed spending time outdoors and would benefit having a safe outdoor option in the event I want to go out in my new home.
It is possible that I may only ever be comfortable with the people in my social bubble and may be overwhelmed when meeting new people. I required sedation for vet care here at the shelter, and it is recommended that my adopters have a relationship with a fear-free veterinarian.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Compatibility:
Cats: No thanks! History of rough playing that would tip over into fighting with the other cat in previous home.
Dogs: Possibly – Has history living with them and has been able to exist in close space with a dog here at the shelter. Mellow, cat-savvy.
Kids: Cat-savvy with good shy-cat skills
We’d like to introduce a very special cat named alex. She is 1 year old, and has a progressive case of FeLV – or Feline Leukemia Virus – which will shorten her lifespan, and we are hoping to find her a loving indoor-only home where she can live out her life. Despite her diagnosis, she can be social and affectionate with those she knows, once she is comfortable in her new space. Alex would need to be the only cat in the household, or have feline friends that also have FeLV. Interested adopters should click the inquire button below to learn more and shelter staff will provide additional counseling on FeLV and answer any questions at the time of adoption.
More info on FeLV can be found here: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951934
Jimmy and Jamaal are two super sweet guinea pigs ready to head off to their next home.
Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!
* If you think you are a good fit, stop by Tues-Sun from 1-4 during our open hours! For more information on our adoption process, please visit www.mspca.org/capeadoptionprocess .
Meet our smushy and sweet girl Nelly! Nelly is a 5 year old dog who is energetic, smart, and loves her people! While she requires a little bit of time to get lovey with her new family, once she knows you she is sweet as a peach. Nelly is looking for adopters who are willing to give her adult-self adequate time and space to fully transition into her new home, as she`s been through a lot of change in a pretty short period of time. This means respecting her boundaries, and taking it slow while she gets to know everyone in the home.
Bonus: Nelly appears to be house-trained already, but adopters should understand that in a new setting it might take her some time to always make the mark! Nelly is currently looking to go to a home where she is the only pet, but has the potential to live in a neighborhood that has dogs in it- so long as her people are diligent in how they go about doing introductions! Nelly has no known experience living with kids, but could likely do well with teens who are able to read dog body language and give her space while she settles in.
If Nelly sounds like a fit for your home, feel free to stop by our Cape Adoption Center 1PM-4PM Tuesday-Sunday!
Meet Bunjamin! Bunjamin is a curious guy who is looking for a new home! He loves to watch what is going on around him, and can be found sitting up on his hind legs, looking out at the going ons of the day. He would love a place of his own, that he can explore as much as he wants while watching all that is going on. He loves to nibble on his daily greens and would love to have a home where he can have many yummy vegetables!
If you think you are a good fit and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed.
*Before coming to the adoption center, we ask that you have a housing unit ready, in case you end up finding an animal you’d like to adopt. We adopt our rabbits to live indoors only and in exercise pens instead of cages. Rabbits need a minimum 8 sqft of space enclosed by an exercise pen; plus access to an additional 24 sqft of space outside of their enclosure to exercise and play in for a minimum of 4 hours daily with supervision.
For more information on our adoption process, please visit https://www.mspca.org/adoption-centers/how-to-adopt/
Introducing Feliz, the small dog with a big personality! While he may not be your typical lap dog, Feliz is more than ready to bring boundless joy and companionship into your life. With a sweet demeanor and a streak of independence, Feliz is the perfect blend of affection and individuality. He may prefer exploring the world on his own terms, but don’t let that fool you – he’s always up for some quality playtime and cuddles on his own terms. Feliz is the type of pup who marches to the beat of his own drum, making every day with him an adventure filled with surprises and laughter. If you’re seeking a furry friend who’s as unique as they come, look no further than Feliz.
Are you ready to meet Sable? This young girl has tons of energy. She is
an adventure buddy waiting for an adventure! Did you know she loves to
swim? She is also happy to curl up beside you and play with a squeaky
toy. This girl loves her toys! She can entertain herself. And prepare to
give up personal space because this girl loves to snuggle. Sable would do
well living with a well-matched dog friend. She says no thank you to
living with cats. And she could potentially live with kids that could
participate in her training. As bright and smart as she is, this good girl
needs some help with her manners. Her energy level is high so she will
need lots of exercise before she can work and train. Since we dont know
her history, her family may have to do some puppy proofing of the house.
Does this pretty girl sound like the dog for you? Visit her at the MSPCA
at Nevins Farm Tuesday-Sunday 12-4:30PM.
Adoption fee: $250*
*Adoption fees are subject to change based on current specials and may increase with training.
Meet Albert aka Albie! He and his old pal Walter are the cutest little old ponies we’ve ever met.
Albert leads well and has settled nicely into his routine of turning out for the day and coming in to our cozy barn for the evening. He and Walter share a paddock, a stall, and their meals – they are best buds! Albie’s teeth are quite worn, so he requires a soaked diet, but he is at a healthy weight and seems to be a relatively easy keeper. He does require a little extra medical maintenance due to his advanced age, but nothing out of the ordinary for a 25+ year old distinguished gentleman. Albert is patient for vet and farrier care.
These two little pony geldings would love a quiet spot to retire together. They are both very friendly, curious, and gentle. And they love a good grooming session! We haven’t turned them out with any other horses given their age and specific diet, but they could easily share a fenceline with friends. If you have experience with older ponies, these two guys could be a great match for you!
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows a rabbit to stretch their legs and move around. The needs of each rabbit are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rabbit you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! Budgerigars, the most common parakeet we see, are native to Australia where they live in massive flocks in the grasslands. Parakeets tend to be docile, gentle, can be easy to tame and can even talk! Despite their small size, these birds can have large vocabularies and can make a wonderful training companion. We recommend that parakeets live in pairs or groups whenever possible. Parakeets can live up to 7-15 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion.
We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ½” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Nests can be provided but should be removed if any females begin to lay eggs. We do not recommend a seed only diet as it can lead to malnutrition and other potential issues, please consult your vet for specific diet recommendations.
The needs of each parakeet are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the parakeet you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

If you are looking for a bigger dog with a lot of personality, then meet
Hank. This best boy has a good history of living with kids and once he
knows you, you are his forever friend. And as his new best friend, Hank is
hoping you want to play a long game of fetch with tennis balls. Hank walks well
on a leash, knows sit and paw, and would love to learn new things if there
are yummy treats involved. Hank really, really likes his treats. This is
great because Hank will need a patient adopter to help him learn how to
greet people and how to settle on his own. The home will need to be puppy
proofed because no one has told him that he is no longer a puppy. Hank
could possibly live with a well-matched dog friend or a dog savvy cat. In
his previous home, Hank lived successfully with children of
different ages. The kids should be sturdy enough so as not to be knocked
over by this bouncy boy. Finally, this good boy has been through many
changes recently and would do best if his new adopters kept his world small and
let him decompress. Would you like to meet Hank? Visit the MSPCA Methuen
location Tuesday-Sunday 12PM-4:30PM.

We have several gorgeous geese available for adoption! Geese are very social animals, so we’d love to send these birds home in pairs at least (and even better if you already have a flock for them to join)! Geese make great flock protectors and these guys and gals would love a job to do.
