Finches have a wonderful voice, and can be a joy to watch, but tend not to be a “hands on” bird. Native to Australia, finches can live up to 10 years with proper nutrition and care. We recommend that finches live in pairs or groups whenever possible.
We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ½” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. As a result of finches being a “hands off” bird they tend to spend much of their lives inside their cage, so we heavily recommend investing in a very spacious cage with lots of enrichment.
The needs of each finch are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the finch you are interested in, please give us a call! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.
* If you think you are a good fit, stop by Tues-Sun from 1-4 during our open hours! For more information on our adoption process, please visit www.mspca.org/capeadoptionprocess .
Meet Cocoa- this charming girl is looking for her forever home. She currently lives with her two sisters (Cookie and Cinnamon), and enjoys their company. They love to greet you together, and love to have their daily salads together. Ideally she would love to find a home where all three of them could live together, but she’d be okay away from them, as long as she can meet a new guinea pig friend. She can’t wait to meet you and find her forever home.
If you think you are a good fit and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed.
*Before coming to the adoption center, we ask that you have a housing unit ready, in case you end up finding an animal you’d like to adopt. Guinea pigs need a minimum 6.5 sqft wire cage (30”x36”) for 1-2 guinea pigs but preferably 10.5 sqft (30”x50”) for 2 guinea pigs and a minimum 8 sqft for 3 guinea pigs but preferably 13 sqft (30”x62”). Cages must have a solid bottom and more room is always encouraged!

Vik is a very social young rat, who enoys hanging out on shoulders!
Rats are nocturnal, highly social and extremely intelligent animals! Due to the highly social nature of rats we prefer to match them with homes with existing rats, or to adopters looking to take home two or more rats. Rats can be food driven (and great foragers!) making them excellent animals to train. We always recommend the use of positive reinforcement training with your animals, and are happy to provide more information on this topic.
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows the rat plenty of space to exercise. The minimum cage size should be 2’x2.5’x2’, with good ventilation (no glass enclosures) and must have a solid base. Preferably the shelter includes multiple levels, with appropriate use of linens or paper bedding and lots of rat appropriate toys. Rats should never be housed with other animals, each species should always have its own housing.
The needs of each rat are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rat you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.
* If you think you are a good fit and would like to learn more, please click on the blue Inquire link above and fill out the form, or submit an inquiry at mspca.org/nevinsadopt. If you just want to browse in person feel free to stop by during our open hours.

Trudy is a sweet and spunky puppy ready to find a home of her own! Trudy and his sister Judy came to us from a southern shelter so we don’t know much about their history, but they have been happy little pups since they came to us! We’re not sure what these girls are mixed with, but we think they will be on the larger side and likely very active and smart! They have been through a lot of transitions in a short period of time and are looking for families that can help introduce them to the world in a safe and fun way! They would likely do fine with kids and other pets with a proper introduction!
If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs.
Preparing your home for your new dog or puppy ahead of time can help ease the transition for your new pet and set you both up for success should there be a dog that’s a good match! To learn more about how to make the first few weeks with your new dog or puppy the most successful it can be, please visit www.mspca.org/petresources.
For more information on our adoption process, please visit https://www.mspca.org/adoption-centers/how-to-adopt/
Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they’re interested in – and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.

More about Destiny:
I am a sweet, easy-going mature lady, and will make a mellow, low-key companion for my adopter.
We have no history of what I might be like living in a home, but staff says I have been lovely since I have been here at the shelter.
I will need a slow introduction to my new home, litter box, and any existing pets while I settle in and become comfortable in my new surroundings. I adjusted fairly quickly here at the shelter, but my adopter should take it slowly with me and give me time to settle in at my own pace.
I am a senior lady and potential adopters will be given access to my medical records.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 3:00pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Compatibility:
Cats: Possibly, no history
Dogs: Possibly, no history
Kids: Possibly, no history: cat-savvy, mellow

Here is pretty Miss April who has both looks and brains. She is young,
energetic and smart! April is a very friendly girl, but in typical puppy
fashion, new things can be scary. This pup could probably live with
another dog. A mellower dog friend that would act as a role model would be
perfect! And she could possibly live with a puppy savvy cat. Children that
are able to help with all the training a puppy needs would be ideal.
Remember, April is still young so her adopter will need to puppy proof the
house and work on her puppy manners. Does this sweet silly girl sound like
the pup for you? Come meet her at the MSPCA at Nevins Farm Tuesday-Sunday
12PM-3PM.
Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!

Meet Pumba! This lovable pig lives up to his namesake as the friendliest warthog around, though do not worry we promise he is still a potbelly pig and not an actual warthog! Pumba loves to show you his sit to get a treat and will follow you around until you indulge him in some forehead scratches and belly rubs.
Pumba is currently a bit underweight and has some tough dry skin that we are working to get under control. Hes been hard at work gaining some weight and muscle again and staff would be happy to chat with you about his medical needs going forward but adopters should plan to have a good relationship with their (pig) veterinarian!
Like all pigs, Pumba will need room to roam, graze, root, and wallow. A proper pig proof enclosure and fencing is a must with access to an indoor space for shelter as needed. Pumba may be able to live with other pigs and farm animals but slow introductions are always recommended.
Interested in learning more about Pumba? Fill out an adoption inquiry but clicking the Inquire button and a staff member will reach out to discuss!

Buggsy is a cute and flashy paint mare who would make an adorable addition to your barn! We are looking for a companion-only home for Buggsy along with her best gal pal Muffin.
Buggsy has settled into our program at Nevins really nicely and is easy to halter in her stall, lead to her paddock, and catch for turn in. She is an easy keeper (as most ponies are) and seems quite hardy and healthy! We don’t have a full picture of her history, but as far as we know she came from an auction in Oklahoma and hasn’t done much ridden work in her life. She would be best suited to just hang out and be your best friend from the ground!
Buggsy is patient for vet care and enjoys being groomed and fussed over. She seems to really like her cozy stall this winter, but could likely handle living out 24/7 with adequate shelter and blanketing in bad weather.
