Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!
* If you think you are a good fit, stop by Tues-Sun from 1-4 during our open hours! For more information on our adoption process, please visit www.mspca.org/capeadoptionprocess .
We’d like to introduce a very special cat named Juliette. She is 1 year old, and has a progressive case of FeLV – or Feline Leukemia Virus – which will shorten her lifespan, and we are hoping to find her a loving indoor-only home where she can live out her life. Despite her diagnosis, she can be social and affectionate with those she knows, once she is comfortable in her new space. Juliette would need to be the only cat in the household, or have feline friends that also have FeLV. Interested adopters should click the inquire button below to learn more and shelter staff will provide additional counseling on FeLV and answer any questions at the time of adoption.
More info on FeLV can be found here: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951934
Introducing Diva! This girl’s personality is as striking as her beautiful coat, and she can’t wait to meet you! Diva came to us with some fractured toes that are healing up, but she doesn’t let her bandaged leg keep her down, she’s just as snuggly and playful as ever. Diva is a bit of a sensitive soul, and she’s a little unsure about the big city. She’s looking for a patient adopter who can allow her the time she needs to settle in at her own pace, while also helping her to perfect her teenager puppy manners!
If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs.

*Before coming to the adoption center, we ask that you have a housing unit ready, in case you end up finding an animal you’d like to adopt.
If you haven’t picked out an enclosure yet, we’d love to help! The Association of Avian Veterinarians has a chart on the minimum cage dimensions that are acceptable for housing the birds we commonly see in our adoption center. As a rule of thumb, get the largest cage you can provide—the bigger the better!
A few important recommendations
SIZE: Wire or mesh cages are preferred that are at least 1.5 to 2 times the wingspan of the bird in all directions. When a bird spreads both wings out, there should be enough room so the wings and tail are not touching any cage bars including top or bottom. The bird should be able to easily spin around on a perch without the tail hitting any cage bars including top/bottom of the cage. The cage should be big enough that the bird can fly with ease from the bottom of the cage to the top without the wings touching any cage bars or any other obstacles (like toys).
BAR SPACING: Make sure the spacing of the bars is small enough that your bird cannot escape! Select a finger or fingers that appear to be the same thickness as the bird’s wing. When checking bar spacing, if your finger or fingers (thickness) fits between the cage bar spacing, then the cage bar spacing is not proper for that bird (a bird could get harmed).
We suggest covering wire mesh platforms or bottoms with a layer of newspaper or other solid surface as exposed wire can cause abrasions to feet, as well as possibly catch and break toes and tails
Companion Birds should receive at least a half hour to an hour of interaction time with their human family; such as training, playing, and/or socially interacting.

Say hello to Colin! Colin is young and active. He is a little shy at first but warms up very quickly and will lay down at your feet with some back scratches! He would make a great companion for a first time pig family where he can teach all about finding the best snacks and making the best wallow. Due to his background, Colin would prefer an outdoor home where he can enjoy the run and practicing his natural behaviors such as rooting. If you are interested in learning more about Colin, please submit an adoption inquiry form.

Goats are herd animals and need the company of other goats to be healthy and happy. We are looking for adopters who can take at least a pair of goats or have an existing herd at home that they’d like to expand. Interested adopters should have housing for their goats to include proper shelter from the elements and fencing to contain these notorious escape artists. As they say – if it can’t hold water, it can’t hold a goat!
All goats are up to date on their medical needs, but will need routine maintenance moving forward for things like hoof trims and yearly vaccines.
Interested in adding a hilarious and sweet group of goats to your home? Fill out an adoption form by clicking the “Inquire” button and a staff member will reach out to discuss!

More about Jax:
I am very very sweet with people. I am calm and lazy, and I like to cuddle!!
I will need a slow introduction to my new home, litter box, and any existing pets while I settle in and become comfortable in my new surroundings. I had a hissy reaction to a dog I saw here at the shelter, but I might be okay with a mellow dog that will respect my space. My adopter should be savvy in handling slow-managed introductions.
I am a big (and handsome!) guy. I need an adopter who is willing to work with their vet and willing to help me along my weight loss journey. Due to my size I definitely need an over-sized litter box.
A fear-free vet is recommended, and I may need a sedative for close handling.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Compatibility:
Cats: No thanks! Has a history of fighting with another cat in previous home
Dogs: Possibly – no history – see above
Kids: Possibly – no history
*Please be sure your town regulations allow for roosters on your property before you inquire about adoption!*

Meet our precious young pup, a gentle soul navigating the world with a tender heart and cautious steps. This adorable dog has faced numerous transitions in their young life, leaving them understandably apprehensive of new experiences and people. They’re seeking a patient and understanding family who can provide plenty of time and space for them to blossom into their true selves. A confident older dog as a role model would be a perfect companion, helping to show that the world isn’t as scary as it seems and instilling a sense of confidence in their uncertain heart. With the right environment and guidance, this fearful pup is sure to transform into a loyal and loving companion.
Introducing Cob, the endearing three-year-old beagle mix whose gentle spirit shines through his initial nervousness. Cob may take some time to acclimate to new environments and situations, but his sweet nature and affectionate demeanor make the wait well worth it. With patience and understanding, you’ll witness Cob’s true personality blossom as he gradually opens up and reveals his loving nature. Despite his initial shyness, Cob adores people and craves companionship, eagerly soaking up every ounce of affection he receives. Cob has a history of esaping, so will likely need some extra management to prevent him from rushing through doorways. If you’re willing to offer him the patience and love he deserves, Cob will undoubtedly reward you with unwavering loyalty and endless cuddles. With a little time and a lot of love, Cob is sure to become the cherished companion you’ve been searching for.
We have several adorable Welsh Harlequin female ducks available for adoption! Ducks are very social animals, so we’d love to send these birds home in pairs at least (and even better if you already have a flock for them to join)! They have beautiful coloring on their feathers and love to splash in their pool!
Maria is bonded with Princess! This sweet pig is looking for her forever home. She currently lives with her sister Princess and enjoys her company. She can be found snuggling with her sister, or sharing a meal with them – as she loves her veggies!

Darren is a young boar who still has a lot to learn about the world. Humans are still a little scary for him so he is looking for a patient adopter who will let him settle in at his own pace and not put pressure on him to interact right away. Darren was housed with his brother Joe until they started bickering in the shelter. They will require a patient adopter with a good bonding plan and a spacious enclosure to help restore their brotherly bond after the shelter. If Darren does not go home with Joe, he is looking for a very submissive male to live with who won’t mind when he pushes them around.
If you think you are a good fit and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed.
*Before coming to the adoption center, we ask that you have a housing unit ready, in case you end up finding an animal you’d like to adopt. Guinea pigs need a minimum 6.5 sqft wire cage (30”x36”) for 1-2 guinea pigs but preferably 10.5 sqft (30”x50”) for 2 guinea pigs and a minimum 8 sqft for 3 guinea pigs but preferably 13 sqft (30”x62”). Cages must have a solid bottom and more room is always encouraged!

Joe is a young boar who still has a lot to learn about the world. Humans are still a little scary for him so he is looking for a patient adopter who will let him settle in at his own pace and not put pressure on him to interact right away. Up until recently, Joe was being hosued with his brother Darren, until they started bickering. This isn’t uncommon in the shelter setting, but they will still need a patient adopter with a good bonding plan and a spacious enclosure in order for them to be able to cohabitate safely again. If Joe does not go home with Darren, he should go home to another male. W
