ask your legislators to co-sponsor shark finning bill

stop_shark_finning_necklace reasized.jpgThe MSPCA has joined the United for Sharks Coalition to support a new bill filed by Rep. Jason Lewis to protect sharks by prohibiting the cruel practice of finning (removing the fins - often while the shark is alive - and throwing the rest of the shark back). Ask your MA state legislators to co-sponsor House Docket 3696.  They only have until Monday the 17th!

Animal Advocates testified at municipalities hearing

363C9038 oscar at podium resized.jpgOn June 4th, the Municipalities and Regional Government Committee had a public hearing on a dozen bills that affect animals. Most we support; however, S.969 would allow municipalities to again have ineffective breed-discriminatory ordinances and we testified in opposition. You can still influence these bills by contacting your legislators.

summertime is a busy season for wild animals

[object Object]Wild animals love summer weather as much as we do, and it's an active time of year for them. This can cause conflicts between people and wildlife. If wild animals are moving into your home or yard, learn how to humanely resolve problems with our interactive tool, the Intruder Excluder.

    SAVE THE DATE -JULY 9th

Public hearings are happening frequently; we know JulyTake Action Dog 9th is the day to speak out on several animal bills in the Judiciary Committee. For example, H.1243 would update a law to help animals seized in the worst types of cruelty cases and H.1456 would prohibit practices of confining farm animals. Check our current legislation page for more information on bills that will affect animals.

Do your elected officials have pets?

One way to break the ice when you talk with your elected officials is to ask them about their pets. Our interns compiled a directory of them, which you can see online at our new site: State House Pets.
