Meet Ginger, a spirited adult female canine searching for her forever family. Initially cautious around new faces, Ginger blossoms into an exuberant, playful companion once she feels secure. Though her enthusiasm can lead to some jumpy moments, she’s diligently refining her etiquette. We think this sensitive soul would do best in a home as an only dog, though she might enjoy a couple of well matched dog friends.

More about Sophie:
I am an easy-going, mellow lady who is interactive and social on my terms. Prior to getting to my current weight I used to be more playful. I enjoyed dangly wand toys, and it is important for my adopters to introduce play back into my daily routine.
I should have a very slow introduction to my new home. I should start in one quiet room with managed hiding spaces, and gradually be given more access to the house as I settle in. My adopter should be prepared to leave me be at the beginning, and let me solicit interactions as I become comfortable.
A fear-free vet is recommended! I am sensitive for close handling. My adopters should be cat-savvy and comfortable reading cat-body language. Consent tests should be used.
My medical records are available for potential adopters to look at. I am clearly a chunky girl (I think I am just big-boned!), and my adopter should discuss working with a vet to help me shed some pounds!
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Compatibility:
Cats: Possibly – no history. Use a slow introduction
Dogs: Possibly – no history. Cat-savvy, mellow, knows to give her space.
Kids: Older, quiet, cat-savvy

*Please be sure your town regulations allow for roosters on your property before you inquire about adoption!*

Our roosters are respectful of people and social with other birds – they are ready to do their job of protecting your hens! We have a wide variety of sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Taylor is a shy little lady looking for a very special home. She is one of the dogs that came to us from a commercial breeding facility, so she is still learning that people are her friends. Taylor is looking for a quiet home where she can take all the time she needs to adjust to a home environment. She is slowly starting to get more curious in the shelter, but she is not quite ready to make friends yet. We’re hoping to find Taylor a family that understands she isn’t ready to be touched or snuggled, but our hope is that one day she might. Understandably, she’s been also been a bit nervous around other dogs since she’s been with us. She might be able to live with another low key dog friend, but will need lots of management to help keep her comfortable. Taylor is still learning all the dog things like walking on a leash, so patience will be key for Taylor’s family!
*Please be sure your town regulations allow for guinea fowl on your property before you inquire about adoption!*
Worried about ticks and flies around your barn this summer? Our guinea fowl can help! We have several male guinea fowl available for adoption and they are experts at eating up any and all insects around your property. They are a bit shy and skittish around people, but get along with each other very nicely and have easily coexisted within a mixed flock of roosters and hens. They have stunning feathers and a very distinct voice when they get all riled up. They are a super entreating bunch who love to zoom around in their outdoor enclosure and perch up high in the sunshine.
We have several gorgeous geese available for adoption! Geese are very social animals, so we’d love to send these birds home in pairs at least (and even better if you already have a flock for them to join)! Geese make great flock protectors and these guys and gals would love a job to do.
Edna Mode is just as iconic as you remember–except now she’s an incredible guinea pig! Eddie will start off shy as most guinea pigs do, but once she’s comfortable, she won’t hesitate to show off her spunky personality. Due to her larger than life personality and diva-licious attitude, Edna is not looking for a cagemate, but may enjoy a nextdoor neighbor pig or two! Eddie loves to snuggle with her people and is excited to be a WFH desk buddy or Netflix pal. When she’s not snoozing under her favorite hand towel, Eddie can be found wheeking up a storm and popcorning around her enclosure. Edna is available from foster and is NOT in the shelter, so if you’d like to see about making her a part of your family, email sgoldman@mspca.org or come into the shelter to speak to staff to learn more.

Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!

Ernie is an adorable 4 year old Nigerian Dwarf wether. He is very shy, so would do best in a home with an experienced adopter who can handle him and help him warm up to people over time. He deserves a loving home where he can relax and learn that humans are his friends!
Goats are herd animals and need the company of other goats to be healthy and happy. We are looking for adopters who can take at least a pair of goats or have an existing herd at home that they’d like to expand. Interested adopters should have housing for their goats to include proper shelter from the elements and fencing to contain these notorious escape artists. As they say – if it can’t hold water, it can’t hold a goat!
All goats are up to date on their medical needs, but will need routine maintenance moving forward for things like hoof trims and yearly vaccines.
Interested in adding a hilarious and sweet group of goats to your home? Fill out an adoption form by clicking the “Inquire” button and a staff member will reach out to discuss!
Lola is a young male rabbit who can be shy at first but very energetic when he is comfortable. He is very food motivated and loves carrots/bananas in moderation. He is not a lap rabbit and does not like to be held/picked up.
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows a rabbit to stretch their legs and move around. The needs of each rabbit are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rabbit you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice

Meet Bowgie, an adorable 1-year-old male dog who is just beginning his journey with us. As a new arrival, Bowgie is still in the process of revealing the intricacies of his personality. While we’re getting to know him better, one thing is certain—he’s full of potential and eager to find his place in a loving home. With his whole life ahead of him, Bowgie is ready to embark on adventures, make new friends, and bring endless joy to his future family. Meet Hala, a sweet and affectionate girl with a heart full of love to give. This energetic pup thrives on playtime and outdoor adventures but also loves to unwind and snuggle up with you on the couch at the end of the day. Her cuddly nature and eagerness to please make her a joy to be around, and she’s always ready to brighten your day with her loving presence.
Hala is still working on her manners, but her willingness to learn and her enthusiastic spirit make her a great candidate for further training. With a little patience and consistent guidance, she’s sure to become the well-behaved companion you’ve been looking for. If you’re ready to open your heart and home to a devoted and loving friend, Hala might just be the perfect match for you.
Budgerigars, the most common parakeet we see, are native to Australia where they live in massive flocks in the grasslands. Parakeets tend to be docile, gentle, can be easy to tame and can even talk! Despite their small size, these birds can have large vocabularies and can make a wonderful training companion. We recommend that parakeets live in pairs or groups whenever possible. Parakeets can live up to 7-15 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion.
We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ½” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Nests can be provided but should be removed if any females begin to lay eggs. We do not recommend a seed only diet as it can lead to malnutrition and other potential issues, please consult your vet for specific diet recommendations.
The needs of each parakeet are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the parakeet you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Introducing Kodiak! He`s smart, energetic, and loves to train! Kodiak needs a little time to warm up to new people. Once he does he is playful and snuggly, but will need a family who can take things slowly and help him settle in at his own pace. He could live with older teens who have nice shy dog skills and can help to participate in his training, and maybe another patient dog friend.
If you think you are a good fit and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs.

Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) theyre interested in and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.
