Budgerigars, the most common parakeet we see, are native to Australia where they live in massive flocks in the grasslands. Parakeets tend to be docile, gentle, can be easy to tame and can even talk! Despite their small size, these birds can have large vocabularies and can make a wonderful training companion. We recommend that parakeets live in pairs or groups whenever possible. Parakeets can live up to 7-15 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion.
We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ½” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Nests can be provided but should be removed if any females begin to lay eggs. We do not recommend a seed only diet as it can lead to malnutrition and other potential issues, please consult your vet for specific diet recommendations.
The needs of each parakeet are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the parakeet you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Meet 6 year old Benji! Benji is the full package- he`s big, strong, silly and smart! He is looking for a patient adopter who is excited about training using positive reinforcement to help him learn his best leash walking skills. Although Benji is able to navigate a world close to other dogs, he would likely thrive in a lower trafficked environment outside. Benji has the potential to have some calm, tolerant canine roommates or walking friends. Benji may be able to live with kids who are comfortable with a big strong dog! Benji does not have a history with cats, so any interested adopters should be committed to taking an introduction with a resident cat extremely slowly!
If Benji sounds like the dog for you, please visit our Methuen Adoption Center Tuesday-Sunday 12PM-4:30PM.
Cleopatra and Sinbad came in together and would love to go home together!

Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!

Penny is a pint size peanut with a big personality. This little jumping bean is a silly, spunky and social girl who loves to be around her people. Penny is not a fan of being alone and isn’t afraid to use her voice to let the world…and the neighbors know. She loves to snuggle and would be happy to get pets all day long. Penny is very food motivated, so training and practicing manners shouldn’t be too hard. Penny has done well living with kids who don’t mind her bull in a china shop personality. She might be able to live with another dog with a slow introduction. If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs.
Preparing your home for your new dog or puppy ahead of time can help ease the transition for your new pet and set you both up for success should there be a dog that’s a good match! To learn more about how to make the first few weeks with your new dog or puppy the most successful it can be, please visit www.mspca.org/petresources.
For more information on our adoption process, please visit https://www.mspca.org/adoption-centers/how-to-adopt/
Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they’re interested in – and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.

Blu is a big, wiggly goofball of a dog with a lot of love to give! In fact
he loves everyone he meets. He could live in a home with a dog he gets
along with and may do well with a dog savvy cat. As far as kids he could
be an amazing family dog with a family where kids are dog savvy and
interactions with young children are managed by adults. Blu has had a lot
of change recently and will need time to get used to his new environment
and everything in it. Blu should be given the chance to choose to engage or
space to disengage if needed while he acclimates. Blu has wonderful leash
manners and would love to go on walks with his new family!
Want to meet Blu? Visit the MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen Tuesday-Sunday
12PM-4:30PM.
Adoption fee: $250*
*Adoption fees are subject to change based on current specials and may increase with training.
Meet Walter! He and his old pal Albert are the cutest little old ponies we’ve ever met.
Walter leads well and has settled nicely into his routine of turning out for the day and coming in to our cozy barn for the evening. He and Albert share a paddock, a stall, and their meals – they are best buds! Walter’s teeth are quite worn, so he requires a soaked diet, but he is at a healthy weight and seems to be a relatively easy keeper. He does require a little extra medical maintenance due to his advanced age, but nothing out of the ordinary for a 25+ year old distinguished gentleman. Walter is patient for vet care, but has a hard time standing for the farrier so will need some extra support on that front.
These two little pony geldings would love a quiet spot to retire together. They are both very friendly, curious, and gentle. And they love a good grooming session! We haven’t turned them out with any other horses given their age and specific diet, but they could easily share a fenceline with friends. If you have experience with older ponies, these two guys could be a great match for you!
Meet Maximus, a gentle giant with a heart of gold! Despite his size, Maximus is a true softie at heart, radiating warmth and kindness wherever he goes. His playful soul brings a sense of joy and lightness to every interaction, whether he’s engaging in a spirited game of fetch or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll by your side. Maximus’s friendly disposition extends to his canine companions as well, as he’s great with other dogs, making him an ideal candidate for a furry friend or two. With his gentle nature and loving spirit, Maximus is ready to bring endless love and companionship to a forever home where he’ll be cherished for the sweetheart that he is.
Meet Pumba! This lovable pig lives up to his namesake as the friendliest warthog around, though do not worry we promise he is still a potbelly pig and not an actual warthog! Pumba loves to show you his sit to get a treat and will follow you around until you indulge him in some forehead scratches and belly rubs.
Pumba is currently a bit underweight and has some tough dry skin that we are working to get under control. Hes been hard at work gaining some weight and muscle again and staff would be happy to chat with you about his medical needs going forward but adopters should plan to have a good relationship with their (pig) veterinarian!
Like all pigs, Pumba will need room to roam, graze, root, and wallow. A proper pig proof enclosure and fencing is a must with access to an indoor space for shelter as needed. Pumba may be able to live with other pigs and farm animals but slow introductions are always recommended.
Interested in learning more about Pumba? Fill out an adoption inquiry but clicking the Inquire button and a staff member will reach out to discuss!
