SPECIAL ADOPTER ALERT!!!
I am a very sweet, independent and quiet, mature lady who is looking for a retirement home to live out my golden years. I enjoy pets and belly rubs!
I will need a slow introduction to my new home, litter box, and any existing pets while I settle in and become comfortable in my new surroundings. I will need assistance with keeping up my grooming since I needed to have matts shaved when I arrived.
Staff will review my medical records with my potential adopter to ensure they have a full understanding of my current and future medical needs. I have kidney disease, a grade 3 heart murmur, dental disease, and I am showing signs that I will develop thyroid disease. The shelter`s vet team determined that I am comfortable to be placed for hospice since I currently have a quality of life. My adopter will need to have a close relationship with a vet, and be able to discern when my quality of life has declined enough to make a tough call. My adopter should be aware that my remaining time will be all about quality, not quantity.
I was previously an indoor-outdoor cat, but it is felt that at this point in my life I will be able to adjust to indoors only.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Compatibility:
Dogs: Possibly – did well living with a mellow, cat-savvy dog in her previous home.
Cats: Was attacked by neighborhood cats, but may do okay with an existing quiet cat.
Kids: Yes!
Meet Giardino! This lovely girl is looking for a home with her sister Isola. These sweet girls love snuggling together, and can be found sharing a hiding hole at anytime. They also enjoy snacking together on treats, like greens and vegetables!
If you think you are a good fit and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed.
*Before coming to the adoption center, we ask that you have a housing unit ready, in case you end up finding an animal you’d like to adopt. Guinea pigs need a minimum 6.5 sqft wire cage (30”x36”) for 1-2 guinea pigs but preferably 10.5 sqft (30”x50”) for 2 guinea pigs and a minimum 8 sqft for 3 guinea pigs but preferably 13 sqft (30”x62”). Cages must have a solid bottom and more room is always encouraged!

This 12 year old spayed female cat is looking for her new home. Stoney is a bit on the shy side so
would do best in a very quiet home with a low key lifestyle (not a lot of visitors/comings and goings).
She would need some time to adjust to her new surroundings. She has a good history of living with an another cat, but a slow intro into the home with other cats would be very beneficial for her. In her own time once she gets to know her person, she is very affectionate.
Stoney is hanging out in a less stressful area of the adoption center, so please ask staff for more info.
Feel free to stop by the shelter during open hours (Tuesdays thru Sundays 1pm to 3pm) if you’re interested in adopting Stoney
Meet Artie! This handsome fella came to us from a home without much history known. He can take a little time to warm up and would likely do best in a quieter home. He lived with many other cats and would likely do well living with other cats!
If you’re interested in adopting a cat, stop by Tues-Sun from 1-4 during our open hours.
Meet Leah! This sweet rabbit is looking for a home to call her own. Ms. Leah is looking for a home where she has lots of space to explore and roam around, as she is used to free roaming. She is very outgoing and social, and enjoys participating in family activities, like watching TV at night.
We adopt our rabbits to live indoors only and in exercise pens instead of cages. Rabbits need a minimum 8 sqft of space enclosed by an exercise pen; plus access to an additional 24 sqft of space outside of their enclosure to exercise and play in for a minimum of 4 hours daily with supervision.

Budgerigars, the most common parakeet we see, are native to Australia where they live in massive flocks in the grasslands. Parakeets tend to be docile, gentle, can be easy to tame and can even talk! Despite their small size, these birds can have large vocabularies and can make a wonderful training companion. We recommend that parakeets live in pairs or groups whenever possible. Parakeets can live up to 7-15 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion.
We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ½” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Nests can be provided but should be removed if any females begin to lay eggs. We do not recommend a seed only diet as it can lead to malnutrition and other potential issues, please consult your vet for specific diet recommendations.
The needs of each parakeet are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the parakeet you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!

Meet Betsy, our sensitive and special cat in need of a patient and understanding adopter! Transitioning to a new home can be overwhelming for her so she’s searching for someone willing to give her all the time she needs to settle in comfortably. Betsy’s success hinges on adopters who can read and understand her body language, as meeting new people can be quite daunting for her.
She may find solace in a small bubble once she settles in with you. Think of her as a “pet themselves on you” kind of cat; she should always initiate interactions, and a “petting consent test” could be helpful in ensuring she’s comfortable and in control of the situation. If you’re ready to provide a loving and understanding forever home to this special kitty, come meet Betsy today and embark on a journey of mutual trust and companionship.
Meet Jackson! This little guy is looking for his forever home. Hamsters are crepuscular by nature, meaning they are most active during “dawn” and “dusk” hours! When the sun is up, Jackson is usually deep in sleep, burried under his cozy bedding. When he is awake, Jackson can be found running on his wheel, or updating his tunnel system. Jackson is hoping to get a room upgrade in his new home, which will give him lots of space to burrow and tunnel.

Seeking companionship? Your search might just end with Lucy. Lucy is an
old soul who is a big fan of fetch. While she might take a few minutes
to warm up, once she does youll see her sweetness shining through. Lucy
has had housetraining and will need to practice when she gets to her new
home. She would also benefit from some time to decompress and learn about
her new environment. Lucy is a very curious girl and she cannot wait to
investigate all of your shelves and counters! Lucy can live with calm dog
companions who are more interested in being friends than in high energy
play. Lucy is open to sharing a home with a feline friend who understands
doggy etiquette and can participate in a gradual introduction. Lucy would
do well in a home with kids who are attuned to her signals and can read her
body language. Adopters will also need to be comfortable supporting Lucy in
managing a medical issue – Lucy is still building her confidence with
being handled by the vet.
Want to meet Lucy? Visit the MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen Tuesday-Sunday
12PM-4:30PM.
Introducing Mia 2, a reserved yet gentle female pup seeking a patient and understanding forever home. Mia 2 would thrive in a tranquil environment with serene canine companions who respect her boundaries and allow her the time she needs to feel comfortable. With the right nurturing and gentle encouragement, Mia 2 has the potential to blossom into a loyal and affectionate companion, bringing joy to the hearts of those who give her the chance to shine.
Meet Luigi! He is looking for his forever home! Luigi is an active and playful guy once he settles into his new home. Introducing Daisy! As beautiful as her flowery name suggests, Daisy is also just as sensitive. She came to us from an overcrowded kennel situation in TX and we know very little about her history, but we do know that she has been sweet with the adoption staff here. With some patience and an adopter who can take a gentle approach to helping her settle in, we know she’ll blossom into the best pup she can be! Daisy is looking for a lower-traffic home. She could potentially live with older children who have some shy dog skills under their belt, potentially cats, or another well-matched dog.
If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs.
Preparing your home for your new dog or puppy ahead of time can help ease the transition for your new pet and set you both up for success should there be a dog that’s a good match! To learn more about how to make the first few weeks with your new dog or puppy the most successful it can be, please visit www.mspca.org/petresources.
For more information on our adoption process, please visit https://www.mspca.org/adoption-centers/how-to-adopt/
Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they’re interested in – and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.

Max’s mysterious past only adds to his charm – who knows what wild tales he has from the Lone Star State? But one thing’s for sure: this pup’s appetite for life is as big as the Texas sky. He loves food sooo much that he really prefers not to share so would do best in a home with older children only.
So, if you’re craving a sidekick who’s part food enthusiast, part dynamo, then Max is your mutt! Stop by the shelter during open hours to talk with our adoption staff about him today!
