More about Sophie:
I am an easy-going, mellow lady who is interactive and social on my terms. Prior to getting to my current weight I used to be more playful. I enjoyed dangly wand toys, and it is important for my adopters to introduce play back into my daily routine.
I should have a very slow introduction to my new home. I should start in one quiet room with managed hiding spaces, and gradually be given more access to the house as I settle in. My adopter should be prepared to leave me be at the beginning, and let me solicit interactions as I become comfortable.
A fear-free vet is recommended! I am sensitive for close handling. My adopters should be cat-savvy and comfortable reading cat-body language. Consent tests should be used.
My medical records are available for potential adopters to look at. I am clearly a chunky girl (I think I am just big-boned!), and my adopter should discuss working with a vet to help me shed some pounds!
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Compatibility:
Cats: Possibly – no history. Use a slow introduction
Dogs: Possibly – no history. Cat-savvy, mellow, knows to give her space.
Kids: Older, quiet, cat-savvy
Dory is a sweet and snuggly little pup who is looking for a family of her own. She can be a little nervous in new situations, but she is super sweet and loves people. She has been very cute and playful with other dogs and might do well with a gentle friend to show her the ropes. Dory has been through a lot of transitions in a short amount of time and will need her family to help her learn about the world in a safe and fun way!
If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs.
Preparing your home for your new dog or puppy ahead of time can help ease the transition for your new pet and set you both up for success should there be a dog that’s a good match! To learn more about how to make the first few weeks with your new dog or puppy the most successful it can be, please visit www.mspca.org/petresources.
For more information on our adoption process, please visit https://www.mspca.org/adoption-centers/how-to-adopt/
Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they’re interested in – and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.
We have several adorable Welsh Harlequin female ducks available for adoption! Ducks are very social animals, so we’d love to send these birds home in pairs at least (and even better if you already have a flock for them to join)! They have beautiful coloring on their feathers and love to splash in their pool!
*Please be sure your town regulations allow for roosters on your property before you inquire about adoption!*
Roosters for hire! We have so many good boys hanging out in our bachelor pad waiting for a flock of ladies of their very own. Our roosters are respectful of people and social with other birds – they are ready to do their job of protecting your hens! We have a wide variety of sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Roosters are full of personality and make great additions to any hobby flock!
This group of parakeets are social, playful and colorful birds, that are looking for their next home! Parakeets are flock birds, so this friend needs to be adopted in a pair, group or go home to another parakeet!
If you think you are a good fit and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed.
*Before coming to the adoption center, we ask that you have a housing unit ready, in case you end up finding an animal you’d like to adopt.
If you haven’t picked out an enclosure yet, we’d love to help! The Association of Avian Veterinarians has a chart on the minimum cage dimensions that are acceptable for housing the birds we commonly see in our adoption center. As a rule of thumb, get the largest cage you can provide—the bigger the better!
A few important recommendations
SIZE: Wire or mesh cages are preferred that are at least 1.5 to 2 times the wingspan of the bird in all directions. When a bird spreads both wings out, there should be enough room so the wings and tail are not touching any cage bars including top or bottom. The bird should be able to easily spin around on a perch without the tail hitting any cage bars including top/bottom of the cage. The cage should be big enough that the bird can fly with ease from the bottom of the cage to the top without the wings touching any cage bars or any other obstacles (like toys).
BAR SPACING: Make sure the spacing of the bars is small enough that your bird cannot escape! Select a finger or fingers that appear to be the same thickness as the bird’s wing. When checking bar spacing, if your finger or fingers (thickness) fits between the cage bar spacing, then the cage bar spacing is not proper for that bird (a bird could get harmed).
We suggest covering wire mesh platforms or bottoms with a layer of newspaper or other solid surface as exposed wire can cause abrasions to feet, as well as possibly catch and break toes and tails
Companion Birds should receive at least a half hour to an hour of interaction time with their human family; such as training, playing, and/or socially interacting.

Meet Lincoln! This handsome fella came to us from a home without much history known. He can take a little time to warm up and would likely do best in a quieter home. He lived with many other cats and would likely do well living with other cats!
If you’re interested in adopting a cat, stop by Tues-Sun from 1-4 during our open hours.
Meet Katara! She and her sister Yue are looking for their forever home. Katara enjoys munching on her morning greens and vegetables and would love a home where she can continue to get her morning salads hand delivered! Katara and her sister will need two of everything in their room while they work on their sharing skills.

Gary is an adorable 3 year old Nigerian Dwarf wether. He is very shy, so would do best in a home with an experienced adopter who can handle him and help him warm up to people over time. He deserves a loving home where he can relax and learn that humans are his friends!
Goats are herd animals and need the company of other goats to be healthy and happy. We are looking for adopters who can take at least a pair of goats or have an existing herd at home that they’d like to expand. Interested adopters should have housing for their goats to include proper shelter from the elements and fencing to contain these notorious escape artists. As they say – if it can’t hold water, it can’t hold a goat!
All goats are up to date on their medical needs, but will need routine maintenance moving forward for things like hoof trims and yearly vaccines.
Interested in adding a hilarious and sweet group of goats to your home? Fill out an adoption form by clicking the “Inquire” button and a staff member will reach out to discuss!
Snoopy is a shy young pup with impressive ears! He came to us as a stray, so he is a bit nervous and reserved due to all the changes in his life.
Once he is comfortable, he is a playful, bouncy guy who loves his people. He is looking for an adopter that will give him time to adjust to his new
environment and keep his world small and controlled. He is still young so his adopter will need to puppy proof the house and work on his puppy
manners. With appropriate management, Snoopy could live with another dog or a dog-savvy cat. And older kids with good shy-dog skills would also
work.
Are you interested in meeting Snoopy? If so, please visit us at the Methuen MSPCA location Tuesday-Sunday from 12PM-4:30PM.

Mr. Smee has quickly won over the hearts of our staff and volunteers and is currently spending quality time in a quiet office – his own personal “penthouse suite.” Mr. Smee loves affection on his own terms and will “check in” throughout the day for pets and his favorite snack, Temptations treats! His history in a home mentions that he loved to sunbathe on a porch and is now looking for the next sunny spot to spend the rest of his days!
We know that he previously lived and enjoyed the company of another cat, but he could be either your one-and-only or the “wise grandpa” to a calm cat at home. He would likely prefer to have his people home more often than not and who are patient with him as he transitions into a new environment.
As a senior, he has experienced some typical medical challenges that comes with being 16 years young. Our veterinary team discovered that he has early chronic kidney disease and anemia – however you wouldn’t be able to tell that based on his outgoing behavior! Mr. Smee would thrive with an adopter who is willing to develop a close relationship with their veterinarian to manage his medical needs. Our staff will be happy to review and disclose all Mr. Smee’s history with you and answer any questions you may have.
So, if you’re ready to open your heart and home to a senior cat who’s overflowing with love, Mr. Smee is waiting to meet you! Come fall in love with this charming guy who is waiting for a quiet home and a sunny window to call his own.

Meet Princesa! This regal mix breed has lots of love (and energy!) to give, and she cant wait to find her new home where she will be treated like true royalty! We have limited information on Princesa’s life before she came to us, but what weve seen here is that shes a little unsure about the sights and sounds of the big city, and will need a patient adopter who can help her settle in at her own pace. Once shes had time to make herself at home, she cant wait to show you her playful side!
We have several gorgeous geese available for adoption! Geese are very social animals, so we’d love to send these birds home in pairs at least (and even better if you already have a flock for them to join)! Geese make great flock protectors and these guys and gals would love a job to do.
Salem can be a shy little lady at first, but once she warms up to you she can be a total love bug. We don’t have much history on Salem, but we do know that she previously lived with another cat in the home. If you’d like to meet Salem, come on down to our Cape Cod location during our open hours!
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows a rabbit to stretch their legs and move around. The needs of each rabbit are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rabbit you are interested in, please give us a call! We are happy to provide guidance and advice
