Budgerigars, the most common parakeet we see, are native to Australia where they live in massive flocks in the grasslands. Parakeets tend to be docile, gentle, can be easy to tame and can even talk! Despite their small size, these birds can have large vocabularies and can make a wonderful training companion. We recommend that parakeets live in pairs or groups whenever possible. Parakeets can live up to 7-15 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion.
We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ½” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Nests can be provided but should be removed if any females begin to lay eggs. We do not recommend a seed only diet as it can lead to malnutrition and other potential issues, please consult your vet for specific diet recommendations.
The needs of each parakeet are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the parakeet you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Shane is a sweet 6 year old Nigerian Dwarf wether. He is the patriarch of our boy herd and is quite social with people.
Goats are herd animals and need the company of other goats to be healthy and happy. We are looking for adopters who can take at least a pair of goats or have an existing herd at home that they’d like to expand. Interested adopters should have housing for their goats to include proper shelter from the elements and fencing to contain these notorious escape artists. As they say – if it can’t hold water, it can’t hold a goat!
All goats are up to date on their medical needs, but will need routine maintenance moving forward for things like hoof trims and yearly vaccines.
Interested in adding a hilarious and sweet group of goats to your home? Fill out an adoption form by clicking the “Inquire” button and a staff member will reach out to discuss!
Adoption fee: $250*
*Adoption fees are subject to change based on current specials and may increase with training.
Meet Walter! He and his old pal Albert are the cutest little old ponies we’ve ever met.
Walter leads well and has settled nicely into his routine of turning out for the day and coming in to our cozy barn for the evening. He and Albert share a paddock, a stall, and their meals – they are best buds! Walter’s teeth are quite worn, so he requires a soaked diet, but he is at a healthy weight and seems to be a relatively easy keeper. He does require a little extra medical maintenance due to his advanced age, but nothing out of the ordinary for a 25+ year old distinguished gentleman. Walter is patient for vet care, but has a hard time standing for the farrier so will need some extra support on that front.
These two little pony geldings would love a quiet spot to retire together. They are both very friendly, curious, and gentle. And they love a good grooming session! We haven’t turned them out with any other horses given their age and specific diet, but they could easily share a fenceline with friends. If you have experience with older ponies, these two guys could be a great match for you!
Meet Mozzarella! Are you ready for a pup that’s as cheesy as her name suggests? Mozzarella, the Tibetan Terrier mix, is here to bring a little extra flavor into your life!
Sure, Mozzarella might think she’s auditioning for the next sled dog team with her enthusiastic leash pulling, but don’t worry, she’s just eager to explore the world with you! With some patience and training we’re confident this smart young cookie with learn her manners in no time.
She is a little sensitive and new places can be a bit daunting for Mozzarella, but with your love and support, she’ll warm up faster than a pizza in the oven.
When it comes to other dogs, Mozzarella’s still figuring out whether they’re friends or foes. For now, she says no thank you to another dog in the home.
So, if you’re looking for a sidekick who’s equal parts goofy and friendly, Mozzarella might just be the perfect match for you! Come speak with our adoption staff about her today!
*Please be sure your town regulations allow for roosters on your property before you inquire about adoption!*
Roosters for hire! We have so many good boys hanging out in our bachelor pad waiting for a flock of ladies of their very own. Our roosters are respectful of people and social with other birds – they are ready to do their job of protecting your hens! We have a wide variety of sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Roosters are full of personality and make great additions to any hobby flock!
Meet Spice! This sweet kitten has just recovered from being sick, and is looking for a soft place to land. She is feeling so much better, and he personality is starting to shine! She has been here for a while, and has missed a lot of her prime socialization time, so she can be a bit weary of new people and places. Her ideal adopters will take their time getting to know her and slowly introduce her to her new life. If you are looking for a sweet kitten, look no further than spice!
Meet Shadow! This shy boy is looking for a patient adopter who is able to efficiently read cat body language. He may need some extra time and patience to adjust to his new surroundings. Slow introductions and a predictable routine will help him feel safe and secure. He may benefit from a quiet room to retreat to when he feels overwhelmed.
*Please be sure your town regulations allow for guinea fowl on your property before you inquire about adoption!*
Worried about ticks and flies around your barn this summer? Our guinea fowl can help! We have several male guinea fowl available for adoption and they are experts at eating up any and all insects around your property. They are a bit shy and skittish around people, but get along with each other very nicely and have easily coexisted within a mixed flock of roosters and hens. They have stunning feathers and a very distinct voice when they get all riled up. They are a super entreating bunch who love to zoom around in their outdoor enclosure and perch up high in the sunshine.
We have several adorable Welsh Harlequin female ducks available for adoption! Ducks are very social animals, so we’d love to send these birds home in pairs at least (and even better if you already have a flock for them to join)! They have beautiful coloring on their feathers and love to splash in their pool!
Are you ready to meet Sable? This young girl has tons of energy. She is
an adventure buddy waiting for an adventure! Did you know she loves to
swim? She is also happy to curl up beside you and play with a squeaky
toy. This girl loves her toys! She can entertain herself. And prepare to
give up personal space because this girl loves to snuggle. Sable would do
well living with a well-matched dog friend. She says no thank you to
living with cats. And she could potentially live with kids that could
participate in her training. As bright and smart as she is, this good girl
needs some help with her manners. Her energy level is high so she will
need lots of exercise before she can work and train. Since we dont know
her history, her family may have to do some puppy proofing of the house.
Does this pretty girl sound like the dog for you? Visit her at the MSPCA
at Nevins Farm Tuesday-Sunday 12-4:30PM.

This program is for cats that are not well suited for an indoor-only type lifestyle but would thrive in environments with more space, a job, and/or less pressure from humans and other pets. Interested adopters must have a safe, secure structure or barn for a working cat and be able to provide adequate time for acclimation.
If you are interested, please stop in during our open hours.

Mom
1 year old
Spayed female
Black domestic shorthair
Mom is not really a Donna Reed mom, she’s more like a Peggy Bundy mom. This sassy lady came to us with her litter of kittens and now that she’s done raising them she’s ready to focus on her own self care and priorities. Those include being pet on her own schedule, playing with her toys, lounging around and not being bothered. We don’t know how she’d be with other animals but a cat savvy home with adults and possibly older kids will be best suited to pamper her the way she deserves.
Mom wants limited visitors, so if you sound like a good fit ask our staff or volunteers about meeting her!
If you think this cat could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed.
Preparing your home for your cat ahead of time can help ease the transition for your new pet and set you both up for success should there be a cat that’s a good match! To learn more about how to make the first few weeks with your new cat the most successful it can be, please visit www.mspca.org/petresources.

Neutered Male
Age: 1 Year, 8 Months
Brown and Black
Domestic Short Hair

More about Charlie:
I am social, playful and sweet with the people I have in my friendship bubble. I love to play with toy mice and wand toys!
I will need a slow introduction to my new home, starting in one quiet room with managed hiding places, and gradually be given more access to the home as I settle in. It is expected that I might struggle with transition since I have been a bit quiet and shut down here at the shelter. My adopter should be prepared to set me up in my quiet room and ideally leave me alone unless feeding or cleaning, and let me solicit interactions as I settle in and become comfortable in my new surroundings.
Medical records are available for review.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Compatibility:
Cats: Possibly – no history, and with a slow introduction
Dogs: Possibly – no history – mellow, cat-savvy and knows to respect his space
Kids: Possibly – no history – mellow, cat-savvy

More about Watermelon:
I was an outdoor cat who transitioned to indoor/outdoor life, and most recently I have been living indoors. Overall I appear to be a pretty sensitive lady, looking for a quiet, low-traffic home without much transition. Expectations should be kept low that I will be outgoing and snuggly. I would appreciate a safe option for spending time outdoors, but this is not required with a cat-savvy adopter who can provide appropriate enrichment.
I am easily stressed and overwhelmed during transitions, so I am looking for an adopter who is willing to give me as much time as I need to settle in … this could be a couple of days or a couple of weeks. My ultimate success will be dependent upon how well my adopter is able to read and understand my body language.
I should start in my own space … an extra bedroom or bathroom … where people and animals do not have access except to feed and clean. I should initially be left alone as I adjust. My space should include plenty of hiding spaces, ideally with access to vertical surfaces such as a cat tree or cat-proofed shelf, with easy access to a litter box, food, and water.
I should not be approached for pets or to be picked up when I am hiding or showing fearful body language. Ideally, with enough time to myself to decompress and become comfortable in my new surroundings, I will begin to relax and move around more freely while my adopter is in the room with me. Only once I am confidently moving about my closed environment and I remain confident with relaxed body language when my adopter is in the room with me should I be given gradual access to more of the home.
Meeting new people can be very overwhelming for me. It is possible I may only ever be comfortable with those in my small bubble. My adopter should be comfortable with a cat who may not ever want to expand their social circle. I should be given the option to stay in a different space when visitors come over.
I should be thought of as a `pet themselves on you` kind of cat until I am comfortable, meaning I should always be allowed to initiate an interaction versus reaching out to pet me. Use `pet consent tests`.
My adopter should have a relationship with a fear-free vet who can help my adopter come up with a handling plan that will reduce stress for everyone and keep everyone safe.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
