Budgerigars, the most common parakeet we see, are native to Australia where they live in massive flocks in the grasslands. Parakeets tend to be docile, gentle, can be easy to tame and can even talk! Despite their small size, these birds can have large vocabularies and can make a wonderful training companion. We recommend that parakeets live in pairs or groups whenever possible. Parakeets can live up to 7-15 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion.
We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ½” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Nests can be provided but should be removed if any females begin to lay eggs. We do not recommend a seed only diet as it can lead to malnutrition and other potential issues, please consult your vet for specific diet recommendations.
The needs of each parakeet are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the parakeet you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Teddy is a cute and outgoing puppy who can’t wait to find his very own family! This handsome pup is super spunky and playful, he will certainly keep you entertained! Teddy came to us with his siblings from a southern shelter and have been through a lot of transitions in their short lives. Teddy is looking for a home that can introduce him to the world in a safe and fun way. We’re not sure exactly what these pups are mixed with but we think they will be medium to large sized dogs.

Meet Buckeye! This energetic boy is looking for a new place to call his own! Buckeye is spunky and curious, and would love a place where he can run around and get out his bunny energy. Buckeye has lots of young rabbit energy, and will need help learning his indoor manners as he currently enjoys chewing everything, including sweatshirts and sleeves! Due to his unknown history it is unclear whether Buckeye would enjoy a rabbit companion.

Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!

Meet Max, the Lone Star State’s most enthusiastic foodie! This Texas tornado of energy is ready to spice up your life with his zest for treats and tail-wagging adventures.
Max’s mysterious past only adds to his charm – who knows what wild tales he has from the Lone Star State? But one thing’s for sure: this pup’s appetite for life is as big as the Texas sky. He loves food sooo much that he really prefers not to share so would do best in a home with older children only.
So, if you’re craving a sidekick who’s part food enthusiast, part dynamo, then Max is your mutt! Stop by the shelter during open hours to talk with our adoption staff about him today!
Say hello to Colin! Colin is young and active. He is a little shy at first but warms up very quickly and will lay down at your feet with some back scratches! He would make a great companion for a first time pig family where he can teach all about finding the best snacks and making the best wallow. Due to his background, Colin would prefer an outdoor home where he can enjoy the run and practicing his natural behaviors such as rooting. If you are interested in learning more about Colin, please submit an adoption inquiry form.

Jack (Parson) Russell Terrier / Labrador Retriever
Boston
Female
2 Years
Valerie
Jack Russell/Lab Mix
2 Years Old
Valerie is a sweet and social little lady who can’t wait to find a home of her own. Valerie came to us from a southern shelter so we don’t know much about her past, but she had some old injuries so we think she might have had a run in with a car at some point. Unfortunately, she had a broken leg that could not be repaired, so she is now a cute little tripod and getting around just fine! Valerie loves to meet new people and is a very snuggly girl, but she can also be really silly and playful when she gets going! She has been through lots of transitions in a short period of time, so she is looking for a home that can give her time to settle in and learn at her own pace. We’re not sure what breeds she is mixed with, but she is a perfectly medium size!
If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs.
Preparing your home for your new dog or puppy ahead of time can help ease the transition for your new pet and set you both up for success should there be a dog that’s a good match! To learn more about how to make the first few weeks with your new dog or puppy the most successful it can be, please visit www.mspca.org/petresources.

Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they’re interested in – and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.
Meadow is ready to find a new home of her own! She came from an out of state transport, so we are still getting to know her. She is learning the ropes and will need a patient family to teach her all the cat basics like socializing with people and playing with appropriate toys. She has been through lots of transitions in her short life and is looking for a home that can help her figure out the world in a safe and fun way!

This Daisy is FRESH, but maybe not in the way you’d think! Sure she’s clean and tidy, but this little lady also has a lot of attitude. Daisy can be very affectionate, rubbing on your legs and and seeking out attention, only to snatch her love away moments later with a swat or a hiss. She needs you to know that this relationship is all on her terms. Luckily she’s so cute you won’t even mind. We think she’ll bloom in a quiet home with cat savvy adults and no other pets, where she can rule with an iron paw and a heart of gold. If you like some cattitude and have a lot of love to give a cat who’ll consider returning the favor, Daisy just might be the gal for you.
