first the good news: Governor patrick signed S.88 into law

SchubertSchubert died after drinking from a puddle that was contaminated with antifreeze, but his death was not in vain.  In his memory, Sen. Brewer filed S.88, which Gov. Patrick signed into law on January 4, 2013. Massachusetts law will now require the addition of a bittering agent to all containers of antifreeze to protect animals from poisoning.  Read more

    and now the bad news...

saddog.jpgThough the new animal control law, which says that municipalities
    cannot discriminate based on dog
breed, has only been in effect a couple months, a Boston city official is fighting to repeal that language so that they can again have an ineffective breed-discriminatory ordinance.  At least one bill will be filed this month that will be harmful to good dogs and good people.  Please ask your state legislators to support the current law and oppose any bills that would allow breed-discriminatory legislation.

Save the dates:  Lobby 101 workshops and Humane Lobby day

statehouseAnimals need us to speak for them in the legislature and with the media. Join us on Tuesday, March 5th at 6pm at the MSPCA in Boston to learn how to be an effective advocate for animals (other workshops will be added across the state).   Then, join us at the State House in Boston on Thursday, April 25, for Humane Lobby Day.  Read more

it's not too late to make a humane resolution
