H.918 will protect people and pets from discrimination

Ask your state legislators to support H.918

H.918 has a public hearing Tuesday, Sept. 17th, 1pm, State House room A-1 - click here for more information if you'd like to join us in Boston

H.918 would prevent homeowners insurance companies in Massachusetts from discriminating based on dog breed.  It is designed to prevent the increasingly common situation of people being denied homeowners insurance - or having existing policies cancelled - because of the breed of dog owned.

MSPCA believes that the focus of insurance companies that attempt to enact breed specific policies should be on the prevention of all bites regardless of the type of dog.  Education of both owners and the public about dog behavior will reduce bites.  Stronger animal control laws and enforcement of these laws will also prevent bites from all breeds of dogs and achieve the goal of reducing claims paid out by insurers.

Calls are more effective than emails, so please call your state senator and representative and ask for their support of H.918.  If you have a personal experience with breed discrimination and insurance, let them know.  You can follow up with an email via the action button (please personalize the text).
