Jager is a sweet and social boy. He just loves to meet new people! He
will lean into you for affection. He knows that people really just want to
pet him. Or play fetch with a tennis ball. This good young boy is easy to
harness and walks very well on a leash. He is well behaved when he sees
other dogs and could probably live with a well-matched dog friend. Jager
could maybe live with a dog savvy cat. And he could possibly live with
kids that are comfortable around a bigger dog and old enough to help with
his training. While he has learned a lot at the shelter, Jager will need
more practice not using his mouth when excited or frustrated. He is hoping
for an adopter that will help him with his training. Luckily, this boy
loves to train! Finally, this best boy loves to be with people and may
need some help feeling safe when alone.
Would you like to meet this gorgeous boy? Come to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm
in Methuen Tuesday-Sunday 12-4:30PM.
Hood and his brother Piglet Jr. are brother boars who are looking for a new home together. Hood is the bolder brother and loves to cuddle with humans and is known to be quiet the escape artist. Male guinea pigs benefit from a more spacious enclosure and two of everything to keep both boys happy.
If you think you are a good fit and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed.
*Before coming to the adoption center, we ask that you have a housing unit ready, in case you end up finding an animal you’d like to adopt. Guinea pigs need a minimum 6.5 sqft wire cage (30”x36”) for 1-2 guinea pigs but preferably 10.5 sqft (30”x50”) for 2 guinea pigs and a minimum 8 sqft for 3 guinea pigs but preferably 13 sqft (30”x62”). Cages must have a solid bottom and more room is always encouraged!

*Please be sure your town regulations allow for guinea fowl on your property before you inquire about adoption!*
Worried about ticks and flies around your barn this summer? Our guinea fowl can help! We have several male guinea fowl available for adoption and they are experts at eating up any and all insects around your property. They are a bit shy and skittish around people, but get along with each other very nicely and have easily coexisted within a mixed flock of roosters and hens. They have stunning feathers and a very distinct voice when they get all riled up. They are a super entreating bunch who love to zoom around in their outdoor enclosure and perch up high in the sunshine.
Spirit cats are very shy with people, and live in your home but are rarely seen – hence their name. They are cats who coexist in your home, and sometimes may grant you the opportunity to touch them – or they may not. Despite being shy with people, spirit cats are usually great with other cats! They are used to living with many cats, and can make excellent companions for cats in your home. It’s not uncommon for a spirit cat to get used to one or two people over time, and those people will be allowed to touch them and they may even choose to hang out near you or sleep on your bed at night. They are a great choice for people with a quiet household, who want to make a difference for an individual cat. Patience and understanding are the best tools when welcoming a spirit cat into your home. It’s important to know that spirit cats won’t magically turn into a normal acting cat – what you see is what you get for a long time, maybe always.
They are a fine choice for situations where you don’t have a lot of time to devote to a pet as they don’t require a lot of attention from humans. They are not a good choice for a busy home, including those with small children.
Are you ready to meet Sable? This young girl has tons of energy. She is
an adventure buddy waiting for an adventure! Did you know she loves to
swim? She is also happy to curl up beside you and play with a squeaky
toy. This girl loves her toys! She can entertain herself. And prepare to
give up personal space because this girl loves to snuggle. Sable would do
well living with a well-matched dog friend. She says no thank you to
living with cats. And she could potentially live with kids that could
participate in her training. As bright and smart as she is, this good girl
needs some help with her manners. Her energy level is high so she will
need lots of exercise before she can work and train. Since we dont know
her history, her family may have to do some puppy proofing of the house.
Does this pretty girl sound like the dog for you? Visit her at the MSPCA
at Nevins Farm Tuesday-Sunday 12-4:30PM.
Say hello to Colin! Colin is young and active. He is a little shy at first but warms up very quickly and will lay down at your feet with some back scratches! He would make a great companion for a first time pig family where he can teach all about finding the best snacks and making the best wallow. Due to his background, Colin would prefer an outdoor home where he can enjoy the run and practicing his natural behaviors such as rooting. If you are interested in learning more about Colin, please submit an adoption inquiry form.

I enjoy laying next to my person on the couch, and I enjoy playing. In fact, it will be important for my adopter to provide lots of playtime and enrichment for me. I have good litter box manners!
I will need a slow introduction to my new home, starting in one quiet room with managed hiding places, and gradually be given access to more of the home as I settle in. I should be left alone except for feeding and cleaning at the beginning, and let me solicit interactions as I become comfortable.
A fear free vet is recommended: I am sensitive for close handling and I do not like to be picked up or held. My adopter should be cat-savvy and comfortable with reading cat-body language.
Petting consent tests should be used to prevent unwanted behavior.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.

More about Watermelon:
I was an outdoor cat who transitioned to indoor/outdoor life, and most recently I have been living indoors. Overall I appear to be a pretty sensitive lady, looking for a quiet, low-traffic home without much transition. Expectations should be kept low that I will be outgoing and snuggly. I would appreciate a safe option for spending time outdoors, but this is not required with a cat-savvy adopter who can provide appropriate enrichment.
I am easily stressed and overwhelmed during transitions, so I am looking for an adopter who is willing to give me as much time as I need to settle in … this could be a couple of days or a couple of weeks. My ultimate success will be dependent upon how well my adopter is able to read and understand my body language.
I should start in my own space … an extra bedroom or bathroom … where people and animals do not have access except to feed and clean. I should initially be left alone as I adjust. My space should include plenty of hiding spaces, ideally with access to vertical surfaces such as a cat tree or cat-proofed shelf, with easy access to a litter box, food, and water.
I should not be approached for pets or to be picked up when I am hiding or showing fearful body language. Ideally, with enough time to myself to decompress and become comfortable in my new surroundings, I will begin to relax and move around more freely while my adopter is in the room with me. Only once I am confidently moving about my closed environment and I remain confident with relaxed body language when my adopter is in the room with me should I be given gradual access to more of the home.
Meeting new people can be very overwhelming for me. It is possible I may only ever be comfortable with those in my small bubble. My adopter should be comfortable with a cat who may not ever want to expand their social circle. I should be given the option to stay in a different space when visitors come over.
I should be thought of as a `pet themselves on you` kind of cat until I am comfortable, meaning I should always be allowed to initiate an interaction versus reaching out to pet me. Use `pet consent tests`.
My adopter should have a relationship with a fear-free vet who can help my adopter come up with a handling plan that will reduce stress for everyone and keep everyone safe.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Princess is bonded with Maria! This sweet pig is looking for her forever home. She currently lives with her sister Maria and enjoys her company. She can be found snuggling with her sister, or sharing a meal with them – as she loves her veggies!
Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!

Say Hey to Regina George! Regina is a sassy and playful Lionhead Rabbit who is ready for her new home! Regina George would do best with an experienced bunny owner, as she has a bit of spicyness to her.

I am a handsome and sweet gentleman who loves pets and attention, and I love to explore!
I am shy at first and I need time to warm up to strangers. My adopter should use petting consent tests and keep my circle small to start. I will need a slow introduction to my new home, starting in one room with multiple litter box options, until I have settled into my surroundings and consistently use the litter box.
I lived with just one person the majority of my life, and I need to be the only cat in my new home. I mis-behaved when other cats were around.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.

We have several adorable Welsh Harlequin female ducks available for adoption! Ducks are very social animals, so we’d love to send these birds home in pairs at least (and even better if you already have a flock for them to join)! They have beautiful coloring on their feathers and love to splash in their pool!
Meet Mr. Bubble! This local man of mystery was found in the woods by a pest control specialist. It took a couple of days to catch him because this smart survivalist had created a modest network of underground tunnels in his temporary haven. Since he’s been at the shelter, Mr. Bubble has proven to be the cuddliest and chillest man alive. He loves lounging out and about in his kennel with his feet splayed out to the side and also enjoys hanging out with staff in his cuddle cup while they do desk work and give him pets. Given his origins, we don’t know anythng about this XXL boar’s history, so if he goes home to be bonded to another boar, it should be a very slow and intentional bonding process with a spacious enclosure for them to eventually share.

Doris really, really wants to be your friend. Except sometimes it is
hard. Doris came to us from an overcrowded kennel situation so will need
an adopter that will give her time and patience to learn how to adjust to
her new environment and do normal dog things. Although Doris is shy and a
bit worried, underneath she is a real love bug. When she knows you, she
will want endless pets. This good girl is also very good walking on a
leash. She has had some successful walks here with other dogs, so could
probably live with a mellow dog friend. With proper management, she could
probably also live with a cat. And this good girl could probably live with
kids old enough to know when Doris wants attention and when she needs a
break.
Are you interested in meeting this pretty pittie lady? Come see Doris at
the MSPCA in Methuen Tuesday-Sunday 12-4:30PM.
