*Please be sure your town regulations allow for roosters on your property before you inquire about adoption!*
Roosters for hire! We have so many good boys hanging out in our bachelor pad waiting for a flock of ladies of their very own. Our roosters are respectful of people and social with other birds – they are ready to do their job of protecting your hens! We have a wide variety of sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Roosters are full of personality and make great additions to any hobby flock!
Ernie is an adorable 4 year old Nigerian Dwarf wether. He is very shy, so would do best in a home with an experienced adopter who can handle him and help him warm up to people over time. He deserves a loving home where he can relax and learn that humans are his friends!
Goats are herd animals and need the company of other goats to be healthy and happy. We are looking for adopters who can take at least a pair of goats or have an existing herd at home that they’d like to expand. Interested adopters should have housing for their goats to include proper shelter from the elements and fencing to contain these notorious escape artists. As they say – if it can’t hold water, it can’t hold a goat!
All goats are up to date on their medical needs, but will need routine maintenance moving forward for things like hoof trims and yearly vaccines.
Interested in adding a hilarious and sweet group of goats to your home? Fill out an adoption form by clicking the “Inquire” button and a staff member will reach out to discuss!
Mr. Smee has quickly won over the hearts of our staff and volunteers and is currently spending quality time in a quiet office – his own personal “penthouse suite.” Mr. Smee loves affection on his own terms and will “check in” throughout the day for pets and his favorite snack, Temptations treats! His history in a home mentions that he loved to sunbathe on a porch and is now looking for the next sunny spot to spend the rest of his days!
We know that he previously lived and enjoyed the company of another cat, but he could be either your one-and-only or the “wise grandpa” to a calm cat at home. He would likely prefer to have his people home more often than not and who are patient with him as he transitions into a new environment.
As a senior, he has experienced some typical medical challenges that comes with being 16 years young. Our veterinary team discovered that he has early chronic kidney disease and anemia – however you wouldn’t be able to tell that based on his outgoing behavior! Mr. Smee would thrive with an adopter who is willing to develop a close relationship with their veterinarian to manage his medical needs. Our staff will be happy to review and disclose all Mr. Smee’s history with you and answer any questions you may have.
So, if you’re ready to open your heart and home to a senior cat who’s overflowing with love, Mr. Smee is waiting to meet you! Come fall in love with this charming guy who is waiting for a quiet home and a sunny window to call his own.
Meet Beans, the adorable canine companion ready to steal your heart! This sweet pup may initially be a bit shy in new environments and around unfamiliar faces, but give him some time and watch as he blossoms into a loving companion. Beans may take a moment to warm up, but once he feels secure, he’ll eagerly seek out your affection with wagging tails and gentle nudges. He finds comfort in the company of other dogs, where his confidence shines through. Once he feels at ease, Beans transforms into a playful and affectionate friend, ready to embark on countless adventures by your side. If you’re looking for a loyal and endearing companion who just needs a little patience and love, Beans is the perfect match for you!
Meet Lunar! This cutie pie is just dying to meet you and win you over with his sweet personality. Just like his name suggestions, his personality is out of this world! He’s calm, cuddly, and wants to keep you company while lounging on some cozy bedding. While in shelter, he has been known to enjoy curling up on the coziest bedding he can get his paws on. While he’s a laid back couch potato, he still never turns down a chance to get some snuggles. Lunar is looking for a home to give him plenty of spots to snuggle and plenty of catnip! If you think he’s the right fit for you, come say hi to him at the Boston MSPCA adoption center.

Lewis and Clark are ready to head off to their new home!
Ferrets are highly active and incredibly goofy animals. Much like a young child, ferrets can get themselves into a lot of trouble! As such the home needs to be ferret-proofed, they even fit through spaces larger than the diameter of a quarter! Although ferrets can get into lots of mischief they can be incredibly fun and entertaining companions. Ferrets are carnivores and must receive a high-protein diet.
We recommend a large solid floored, multi-level cage similar to those made for ferrets or chinchillas. The cage should include houses or other structures for the ferret to hide in. Ferrets can be litterbox trained and we highly recommend it as they can be quite messy.
The needs of each ferret are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the ferret you are interested in, please give us a call! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.
* If you think you are a good fit, stop by Tues-Sun from 1-4 during our open hours! For more information on our adoption process, please visit www.mspca.org/capeadoptionprocess .
Doves can be tamed but tend to be more “hands off” birds. They tend to vocalize throughout the day with a “coo”, dissimilar to the screeching or whistling of many other birds. Doves can be found around the world, and can live up to 10 years with proper nutrition and care. We recommend that doves live in pairs or groups whenever possible.
We recommend a cage that is at least 32”x23” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ?-¾” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of flat surfaces to perch on, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Unlike many other species of birds, doves are unable to climb up cage bars, and tend to move back and forth making a wider cage more appealing to them. Doves should be provided with regular opportunities for bathing, and unlike parrots require grit as part of their regular diet to aid in digestion.
The needs of each dove are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the dove you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.
* If you think you are a good fit and would like to learn more, please click on the blue Inquire link above and fill out the form, or submit an inquiry at mspca.org/nevinsadopt. If you just want to browse in person feel free to stop by during our open hours.
* We receive a large number of inquiries daily and we do our best to respond to each inquiry as soon as possible! For more information on our adoption process, please visit www.mspca.org/nevinsadoptionprocess .

Meet Kodiak! Clever, charming, handsome, athletic, snuggly…there aren’t enough adjectives to capture how special this boy is! Kodiak typically needs a little time to warm up to new people – to help his winning personality shine through, he will need a family who understands his needs and can take things at his pace. Don’t worry, our staff will walk you through all of the specifics! He could likely live with older kids, and may enjoy the company of a patient dog friend.
If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs.

Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they’re interested in – and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.
Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!

If you’ve always wanted backyard goats, look no further! We have several young does who are looking for new homes. These ladies are a mix of LaMancha and Alpine goats, so we believe they will mature to be a medium to large goat. Goats are very social animals, so we are aiming to send them home in groups of at least three so they will always have companionship and playmates. Or if you already have a herd, we recommend these ladies going with other horned goats. They will require a fenced in area with appropriate shelter for inclement weather. Since goats are considered livestock, you will need to check with your town to make sure they are allowed in your area. We’re here to support you and answer whatever questions you may have, so please reach out if you think you could offer a loving home to some of these wonderful goats!

More about Kitty:
I am a playful, adventurous boy with good history living with another cat. In fact, I am here with Kat. We are a bonded pair: we love each other and want to spend our lives together. Double the fun, double the love!!
We will need a slow introduction to our new home. We should start in one small, quiet room with managed hiding spaces (an extra bedroom or bathroom), and gradually be given access to the home as we settle in and become comfortable in our new surroundings. Our adopter should be prepared to ideally leave us be in the beginning except for feeding and cleaning, and let us solicit interactions as we become comfortable. It takes me time to warm up, but if our adopter respects my space and lets me acclimate at my own pace, I will blossom into the best cat I am meant to be.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Compatibility:
Cats: Yes
Dogs: Possibly – no history. Cat-savvy, mellow, and will give Kitty and Cat space
Kids: Possibly – older
We’d like to introduce a very special cat named Dad Kat. He is a 4 year old, and has a progressive case of FeLV – or Feline Leukemia Virus – which will shorten his lifespan, and we are hoping to find him a loving indoor-only home where he can live out his life. Despite his diagnosis, he can be social and affectionate with those he knows, once he is comfortable in his new space. Dad Kat would need to be the only cat in the household, or have feline friends that also have FeLV. Interested adopters should click the inquire button below to learn more and shelter staff will provide additional counseling on FeLV and answer any questions at the time of adoption.
More info on FeLV can be found here: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951934
Budgerigars, the most common parakeet we see, are native to Australia where they live in massive flocks in the grasslands. Parakeets tend to be docile, gentle, can be easy to tame and can even talk! Despite their small size, these birds can have large vocabularies and can make a wonderful training companion. We recommend that parakeets live in pairs or groups whenever possible. Parakeets can live up to 7-15 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion.
We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ½” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Nests can be provided but should be removed if any females begin to lay eggs. We do not recommend a seed only diet as it can lead to malnutrition and other potential issues, please consult your vet for specific diet recommendations.
The needs of each parakeet are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the parakeet you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

We have several adorable Welsh Harlequin female ducks available for adoption! Ducks are very social animals, so we’d love to send these birds home in pairs at least (and even better if you already have a flock for them to join)! They have beautiful coloring on their feathers and love to splash in their pool!

More about Sophie:
I am an easy-going, mellow lady who is interactive and social on my terms. Prior to getting to my current weight I used to be more playful. I enjoyed dangly wand toys, and it is important for my adopters to introduce play back into my daily routine.
I should have a very slow introduction to my new home. I should start in one quiet room with managed hiding spaces, and gradually be given more access to the house as I settle in. My adopter should be prepared to leave me be at the beginning, and let me solicit interactions as I become comfortable.
A fear-free vet is recommended! I am sensitive for close handling. My adopters should be cat-savvy and comfortable reading cat-body language. Consent tests should be used.
My medical records are available for potential adopters to look at. I am clearly a chunky girl (I think I am just big-boned!), and my adopter should discuss working with a vet to help me shed some pounds!
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Compatibility:
Cats: Possibly – no history. Use a slow introduction
Dogs: Possibly – no history. Cat-savvy, mellow, knows to give her space.
Kids: Older, quiet, cat-savvy
