The MSPCA-Western New England Animal Care and Adoption Center on Union Street in Springfield is permanently closed.
The MSPCA sold its Springfield facility, which includes an animal hospital and adoption center, to Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society (DPVHS) for a discounted price of $1.2 million. The move will enable DPVHS to expand its successful animal adoption, spay/neuter, education and outreach programs from Hampshire and Franklin counties to Hampden county in upcoming months. Residents of Springfield, Chicopee, Holyoke, West Springfield and Hampden: If you have found a stray or injured animal, please call Thomas J. O’Connor (TJO) Animal Control and Adoption Center on Cottage Street in Springfield for assistance at 413-781-1484.
Residents Outside TJO's Service Areas: To assist stray or injured animals found outside the service areas for Thomas J. O’Connor, please contact the animal control officer for the city or town where the animal was found. That number is available through the police department.
Surrenders: People with a need to relinquish their own pet may call other MSPCA Animal Care and Adoption Centers for help.

These facilities have varying guidelines regarding the acceptance of animals. It is imperative to contact them in advance of surrender.
Reporting Cruelty: People concerned about the treatment or care of an animal are encouraged to report suspected cruelty or neglect to MSPCA Law Enforcement at 1-800-628-5808. The MSPCA Law Enforcement department will remain in western Massachusetts. Calls will be answered Monday through Friday during regular business hours. |
