Healthy Dogs with Early Renal Disease for Angell-Boston Kidney/Diet Study

Objective: Determine effect of dietary protein on quality of life and longevity in otherwise healthy dogs with renal disease.
Owners are provided with (approximately $15,000 value):
-Specific dry dog food
-Kidney workup
-Monitoring
-Medications related to kidney disease
-Stabilization of a uremic crisis
Timeline:
Phase 1= 3 months
Phase 2= 21 months
Owner agrees to:
-Regular recheck visits
-Feeds only prescribed diet and allowed treats
-Maintain a Food and Quality of Life Diary
-Kidney necropsy
Owner expenses:
-Costs unrelated to kidney disease
-Cost of procedures beyond the study protocol
