Dr. Debbie Ruehlmann is a board-certified specialist who focuses on diseases of the nervous and neuromuscular system of dogs and cats, including diseases of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, neuromuscular junction and muscles. Her background in both internal medicine and neurology, helps her to diseases of the nervous system that may be associated with or caused by systemic or metabolic illness. Dr. Ruehlmann performs neuro-diagnostic tests — to help clients and referring veterinarians accurately diagnose and treat disease — including blood analyses (infectious disease titers, Ach Receptor Ab titers, endocrine function tests), radiographs of the spine and skull, electro-diagnostic testing for neuromuscular diseases, CSF analysis, myelograms, CT scan of the brain/spine and MRI of the brain/spine.

Allen Sisson, DVM, MS, DACVIM
Dr. Allen Sisson is a board-certified veterinary neurologist and neurosurgeon. He focuses on diagnosing and treating all types of disorders that affect the nervous system such as seizure disorders, spinal cord disorders causing neck and back pain or paralysis, inflammation of the nervous system such as encephalitis and meningitis, and peripheral nerve and muscle disorders such as myasthenia gravis, polyneuropathies and polymyostis. He performs surgery to remove brain and spinal tumors, resolve paralysis caused by intervertebral disc herniation, and stabilize spinal instability disorders such as wobbler syndrome. Dr. Sisson uses electrodiagnostics to help identify and properly treat peripheral nerve and muscle disorders such as cauda equina syndrome and polyradiculoneuritis.

Jim, the neurology specialty technician, began his career at Angell as a primary care attendant. He has an extensive background in healthcare and public service. He also has a long background working with animals and for animal rights. As a board member of the Friends of Peter's Park, he testified before the Boston City Council and was a member of the Dog Recreation Space Subcommittee of that organization, which successfully lobbied the Boston City Council to legalize dog parks.
