Public Awareness and Education
Our three posters promote three important aspects of reducing the homeless cat population:
1. Spay/Neuter: Most people do not realize that a kitten can become pregnant at only four months. The goal of this effort is not just to convince cat owners to spay or neuter their cat, but to do so early.
2. Adopt an Adult Cat: There are far more adult cats waiting to be adopted than their younger counterparts. Adult cats make great companions and the MSPCA has all types of personalities with over 9,000 adult cats each year looking for a place to call home.
3. Proper Identification: Almost half of the cats brought into animal shelters are classified as stray and are never reclaimed. With proper identification, lost cats can be reunited with their families and avoid having to spend time at a shelter or animal control facility.
Posters promoting early spay and neuter were distributed to veterinary offices that participate in the MSPCA's Spay-Neuter Assistance Program.
Our Adopt an Adult Cat message ran in the the Brookline/Cambridge/Newton Tabs, The Cape Cod Times and Brockton Enterprise. Building #19 also generously inserted flyers in their circular and also on their website under Good Causes: www.building19.com/goodcause.htm.
The Cat Campaign also had billboard for 4 weeks in five locations around Boston (Cambridge, Roslindale, JP, Brockton, Stoughton). See below
