thanks to mashpee voters, pit bulls are safe in their homes

Girl and her Pit Bull puppyAt Mashpee's Town Meeting, Select Board members and residents thankfully voted down a misguided ordinance that would have negatively affected pit bulls and their families.  Breed-specific legislation (BSL) does not work to address concerns with dangerous dogs.  For more information, see the MSPCA website.

antifreeze bill passes out of committee 

Common antifreeze contains ethylene glycol, which is highly toxic to animals and humans.  The smell and taste of antifreeze is appealing to animals, who can be poisoned by even the relatively small amounts that leak out of cars and trucks. Legislation that would require the addition of a bittering agent to antifreeze, H.4285, is moving through the legislative process.  You can help by asking your legislators to support this bill.

Arlington pets in housing update

The MSPCA has been offering our help to the Arlington Housing Authority to implement a pet policy that would allow existing pets on the property who live with responsible owners to stay.  An effective pet policy can proactively address potential problems and work for pet owners, people who do not own pets and management alike.  Read More
