It's Our Birthday!
The MSPCA is 144 years old today! We were founded on March 23, 1868 by George T. Angell, and have been helping many thousands of animals every year since then. We're "MySPCA" - your local, independent nonprofit organization founded by animal lovers just like yourself- not by the government or any "national" humane society. You are the MSPCA: we couldn't do what we do without your support.

What Does "MySPCA" Mean To You?
The MSPCA is MySPCA! That’s what we’re saying to show that the MSPCA is the organization that has made a difference in our lives. Maybe you found your best friend at the adoption center, or maybe your pets received the kindness and care they needed at Angell Animal Medical Center. We are here for animals in Massachusetts.
Join the family! We want you to say “The MSPCA is MySPCA,” too! We need your support to make sure our family can continue to grow.
Share your MySPCA story with us! We love to hear from our family members! Tell us why "The MSPCA is MySPCA” and we may share your story!
We love having you in our family!
Small Horses, Big Hearts
The MSPCA at Nevins Farm and Animal Rescue League took in 32 miniature horses in early March. An overwhelmed owner surrendered the horses, whose basic needs were not being met. The little horses are very underweight, with overgrown hooves and skin infections, and are infested with parasites. Nevins Farm staff and volunteers have been working tirelessly to care for the horses, carefully reintroducing a healthy diet and working to socialize them.
We are so thankful for the outpouring of support from the community to help us help these small (and very sweet) horses. You can donate and help the minis today and follow their story on the Equine Center Blog or the Nevins Farm Facebook page.
$10,000 Reward for New Bedford Cruelty Case
MSPCA Law Enforcement continues to investigate a widely publicized case of two dogs found shot to death in New Bedford on February 13. Searches of the property where the two dogs were found has uncovered an additional dog skeleton, which Law Enforcement is investigating for a possible connection in the original crime. We urge anyone with information about the case to call the Law Enforcement Hotline at (800) 628-5808. Learn more about the case and what you can do to help.
Which Houseplant Is More Deadly Than a Poinsettia To Your Cat?
Springtime brings many cats to the emergency room due to ingestion of Easter lilies. All parts of the lily plant are highly toxic to cats in even the smallest amounts. If ingested, lilies can cause kidney failure and death. Learn the signs to watch for and the other houseplants that can pose a danger to cats.
Advocacy Update
Good news: Several bills that will help animals were released from committees recently: H.2326 would require veterinary care to relieve animal suffering, H.2886 would prevent the sale of puppies under 8 weeks of age, and S.88 would require the addition of a bittering agent to wholesale containers of antifreeze to prevent poisonings of animals and people. Also, the comprehensive animal control bill, now S.2184, passed the Massachusetts Senate. Read updates on animal-related legislation in Massachusetts.
